Hi, thanks for reading my msg. I have a Satellite P105-S9337 in standard configuration except for one extra GB of ram (now 3 GB) It is now 3 years old and has been a great laptop with no real problems till a couple of weeks ago. I was copying photos (using explorer) from my cameras media card via the USB to the HDD on my laptop. During the copy process the laptop froze (crashed) so I hit the power button to restart the P105 and it froze again....this time at the scrolling bar at the start of vista startup. After trying many times, it will not bootup passed the scrolling bar (in normal windows mode). It would bootup in safe mode and everything seemed to be functioning ok but would still not bootup in normal mode.

I tried to do a vista repair...no luck, I did a (successful)restore to many previous dates and still refused to boot in normal mode. Thinking this was a software problem I did a restore to factory default (out of the box) of vista...the restore completed ok but still the same problem...won't bootup passed the scrolling bar and it will not boot in safe mode now either because it can't complete the first boot in normal mode. I have tried restore, repair....I have formatted the HDD and wiped the partitions and done a complete vista install....reset the cmos and still the same problem.

I have read through dozens of posts on lots of forums and still can't find a solution. Does anyone here have any ideas how to fix this...I would appreciate any help.

    Thanks

    Pistol

    Hello there,

I recently had a similar problem with my P105-S9312 (it froze and it wouldn't go beyond the scrolling bar but it would boot in safe mode). But when mine froze I saw horizontal bars across the screen, and that tends to be an indication that something is wrong with the video card or video chipset (it worked in safe mode, so it was clear that the monitor was fine). Since you don't mention those bars, I guess in your case it could be anything: the motherbroad, for example. I would take it to a place that offers a free diagnosis or a cheap one and they will tell you what's wrong with it. But it certainly looks like it's a hardware problem.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the reply....I'm also starting to think its hardware related.

I have managed to get my puter to boot in safe mode again by restoring an old backup. It is still crashing at the scrolling bar when I try to boot it in normal mode. I have looked in ntbtlog.txt to see the last driver loaded before it crashes...now I want to see which is the next driver to be loaded in the boot up list, presumably this will be the driver causing the software or hardware problem.

Can someone tell me which file contains the list of drivers to be loaded when the puter boots up with vista. There must be a file that I can view?

    thanks in advance.
