The fan on this new unit runs for between :45 & 1:45 & then is off for :30 - 1:00 & then on again. The unit is idling on AC & the Wireless G is on with no traffic. Room is about 78F & the unit is sitting on an aluminum wedge cooler with holes underneath, but no fans. CPU usage jumps between 2% & 4% with no spikes at all. The task manager shows no change in activity, but the fan still cycles. The fan seems to be in low mode, but occasionally goes to high when I am actually using the thing! The noise level is intrusive, especially on high & I guess because of the location of the vent it is hard to ignore. I am concerned that it will be a problem if I watch a quiet movie & the fan runs on high throughout. It is also an issue during meetings. Any advice beyond exchanging it for an HP, which I recall being almost silent. Although the HP has horrible mushy touchpad buttons.
    Thanks
