Hi,
I went to Best Buy the other day and saw some laptops. I really liked the massive 18.4" screen on the Qosmio and the vividness of colours. But after researching online, I'm thinking the Satellite P500 model might be more practical for me.
There are no stores in my area that have the P500 as a display model, so I can't check it out. But I looked at the specs online for the screen and they appear to be exactly the same - 18.4" FHD TFT with TruBrite.
Specifically this is what is listed as the specs for the screen on the Toshiba Canada website for both the Qosmio X500 and the Satellite P500. The wording is exactly the same for both listings.
Type: 16:9 TFT Active Matrix colour LCD display
Size (diagonal): 18.4" FHD TFT with TruBrite
Native LCD Panel Resolution: 1920x1080x16.7 million colours
So my question is, does this mean the P500 screen will be exactly the same as the X500? I really loved the way the screen looked and noticed that it displayed colours really well, and I would hate to be disappointed if I ordered the P500 online and it was different in any way. So to those of you who know about such things, can I order the Satellite P500 online and rest assured that the screen will be the same one I saw and fell in love with on the Qosmio?
Thank you to all in advance.

According to ToshibaDirect.com, the Satellite P500 series has a 1680x945 TruBrite display. The Satellite P505 series has the 1920x1080 display. The Qosmio X505 series has the 1920x1080 display.

There are numerous P500 models with different specs, but whatever is on ToshibaDirect is irrelevant to me because I am from Canada and ToshibaDirect will not ship there. The exact model I am looking at is the Toshiba Satellite P500-0MP from Toshiba's Canadian website. Its specs are the ones I quoted in my original post. So will it be the same screen? -
I recommend against the satellite p500
I bought one in Canada
PSPGSC-01800T
is the specific model number.
The keyboard failed within one month, and you wouldn't believe how difficult Toshiba makes it to engage the warranty process. (I registered my laptop the day after I bought it).
Considering it is a higher end laptop, the service was abysmal and in short I wouldn't buy another Toshiba laptop again.
In the end I am replacing the keyboard myself for a few reasons:
1. The cost - I will pay less for parts and shipping for the keyboard to my home than I will to send the laptop in for service
2. The ease. Keyboards aren't that difficult to replace. I get to keep the computer in use (I use it for business and pleasure, and I don't have an extra 1200$ to buy another computer), and external keyboards are cheap.
I am out an additional $80 for all this BS. Making it a ~1300$ computer.
Hopefully that is the last failure with it. Really. One month until it cratered.
