Hi dave1992, is the wireless switch actually switched on? If so can you see your network card installed in the device manager under network adapters?
If you can't i would suggest that you install the drivers again.
If you do this and you're still having problems then may be you will need to open your laptop again and see if everything is secure.
I used to own this laptop but i can't remember where exactly the wireless card is located. -
any idea where i could get the drivers free? -
have you tried at toshiba.com ?
-
No would it be possible for someone to find it me? im useless and dont have a clue what im looking for
By the way, they is only Intel 8255x-based PCI Etherney Adapter (10/100)
Wouldent think this is it...
Edit, Also under network adapters is other devices drop down menu, and it has a question mark saying Video Controller (VGA compatible) -
Try here, you need to search under archived files.
http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=UK -
Would it be sat pro 61xx, thats where 6100 is? -
OK iv tryed to install the wireless hotkey setup and on 100% done it says
"Not found Regstry of THOTKEY service"
whats this mean? -
right how would i install the drives properly?
-
Can you see your card at device manager now ? -
what do i need as im in a hurry
-
I updated my post but, are you still not able to enable your wirless device ?
-
No it still isnt in the device manager???
FN+F8 dont work and the switch at the side dosent work
trying to install the wireless network dirver loads up a black box for a mil of a second so i dont know what it says
Edit: is they a way to install them properly not just with a launch button? -
That is maybe wrong driver then. It must show up in device manager...
-
they are 2 versions i got both and did both, they both do the same thing :s
-
Those this mach with your laptop ?
LINK REMOVED -
what shal i do with it? and thanks
-
Awww, I'm not able to find any drivers for your model. But how did this happend? Did you re-install your OS ?
If not, there maybe there is a folder in C named drivers (?) -
just one last thing...
When i click on add new hardware it can only find "
video controller (VGA compatible)"
that has no drivers, out of curiousity could this be it?
& i need to be connected to the internet on my laptop for that to work, though i need my wireless to work for internet
thanks -
That must be your grapich driver. Can you remember your GPU model ?
-
The graphic card is a nvidia Ge force 4 420 GO.
What is the actual model number of your laptop? -
Maybe the VGA driver is not properly installed (?)
What do you think Rachel ? -
Im not sure what model number it is, i got it 2nd hand.. and they are no stickers to tell me o the bottom?
Would the vga cause it it to do this? -
Download the 420 graphics card display drivers from the link below and save it. Manually try and force it to update in the device manager by selecting the drivers yourself.
No, i doubt that the vga problem is connected to your wireless problem at all.
You might not be able to get your hotkey functions working but you should still be able to install the wireless card software.
As dave pointed out there are two different wifi cards
There is a driver for an Agere card and an Atheros card.
The Toshiba US website is a nightmare for searching for discontinued models.
I have found the discontinued page though.
Try the Atheros driver for wifi that you see listed here.

Also, try the hotkey drivers. -
your a star, thanks could you run through it for me on how to install it, or is it a setup.exe file?
Would it be this type?
Atheros 802.11a/b/g WiFi driver with Cisco/WPA support for Windows XP/2000 (v2.4.2.14; 11-11-2003; 3M)
or this?
Atheros (802.11a/b) Wireless LAN Driver for WIndows XP (v2.1.1.7; 12-05-2002; 453K) -
well iv installed the hotkey one and its asked me to restart so im doing now, fingers crossed it will work, i would have thought you would need the hot key for the wireless, to actually turn it on, hope it works
-
na nothing has changed, gonna try the one that you said now
& how would i know that the key is working? the one on the left?
would i need to update my bios? -
The hot key is now working
It didnt change disply before, so now its just the the switch i think -
do i need a wireless connection for wireless to come on?
-
If you're still having problems then i suggest that you try all three of the wifi drivers that you tried yesterday and today again.
I don't actually know what wifi card your laptop has as we don't know the model number.
Do you now see the wifi card adapter in your device manager under network adapters?
You should be able to see your wireless icon but you won't be able to connect without any wireless connection.
You could also try entering your BIOS and seeing if there is a setting to turn your wifi card of or on. To enter the BIOS you need to press F2 when you boot up.
-
No in network adapters they is only ethernet adapter 10/100
Il try bios now
is they a way i could get model number another way?
Edit, i tryed to get into bios and it gave me the select boot device, thats all?
[c] cdrom
[n] network
usb floppy drive
[1] primary hd (built in)
[2] secondary hd (select bay)
pc card hd
[d] default system setup device
which one? -
OK, iv come to a decision, im gonna take it out and have a look at it. as when my hdd broke it was stood for about 3 month not doing anyhting, so could you tell me which one of these it would be in
the red one on the left i cant get it, its a star screw with a stick in the middle, the red on the right is the modem i believe, would it be under that?
and i just wanted to know what the blue circle is for, its like a switch the it locked to one way and it has a pad lock on it
Here:
-
Btw i got into my bios and its version 1.5, need updating? & it said built lan - enabled
-
I have 3-4 of these laptops in my cubicle all apart. I believe the wifi card is on the motherboard right next to the processor. i would try reseating that. Also in the bios im pretty sure you can enable/disable the mini pci slot or adapter. ...hmm or maybe that was a dell i was recently working on... Anyway, make sure the mini pci is enabled in bios, reseat the connections on the motherboard, make sure switch is turned on. sounds like you've done most of those.
I can supply a picture of its location on the motherboard if you want. -
-
There is a disassembley guide online. On page 2 it shows you where the wifi card is located.

OK would a bios update help? its version 1.5 or a fresh install of xp do?
Thanks
Edit, i cant do that, bit tecnical for me -
Maybe a fresh install of XP will help. All those drivers you have tried has maybe messed with your registry...
-
thanks everyone
