Hi dave1992, is the wireless switch actually switched on? If so can you see your network card installed in the device manager under network adapters?
If you can't i would suggest that you install the drivers again.
If you do this and you're still having problems then may be you will need to open your laptop again and see if everything is secure.

I used to own this laptop but i can't remember where exactly the wireless card is located.

By the way, they is only Intel 8255x-based PCI Etherney Adapter (10/100)

    Wouldent think this is it...

Edit, Also under network adapters is other devices drop down menu, and it has a question mark saying Video Controller (VGA compatible)

Awww, I'm not able to find any drivers for your model. But how did this happend? Did you re-install your OS ?
If not, there maybe there is a folder in C named drivers (?)

ok damn it, yeah my hard drive went dead and asked for a hdd password, so i re-installed

    just one last thing...
When i click on add new hardware it can only find "

    video controller (VGA compatible)"

that has no drivers, out of curiousity could this be it?

& i need to be connected to the internet on my laptop for that to work, though i need my wireless to work for internet

    thanks

What is the actual model number of your laptop?

Download the 420 graphics card display drivers from the link below and save it. Manually try and force it to update in the device manager by selecting the drivers yourself.

No, i doubt that the vga problem is connected to your wireless problem at all.

You might not be able to get your hotkey functions working but you should still be able to install the wireless card software.

As dave pointed out there are two different wifi cards

There is a driver for an Agere card and an Atheros card.
The Toshiba US website is a nightmare for searching for discontinued models.

I have found the discontinued page though.

Try the Atheros driver for wifi that you see listed here.

    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/...ilter=6100&selCategory=3&selFamily=1073768667

    Also, try the hotkey drivers.

your a star, thanks could you run through it for me on how to install it, or is it a setup.exe file?

    Would it be this type?

    Atheros 802.11a/b/g WiFi driver with Cisco/WPA support for Windows XP/2000 (v2.4.2.14; 11-11-2003; 3M)

    or this?

Atheros (802.11a/b) Wireless LAN Driver for WIndows XP (v2.1.1.7; 12-05-2002; 453K)

If you're still having problems then i suggest that you try all three of the wifi drivers that you tried yesterday and today again.

I don't actually know what wifi card your laptop has as we don't know the model number.

Do you now see the wifi card adapter in your device manager under network adapters?

You should be able to see your wireless icon but you won't be able to connect without any wireless connection.

You could also try entering your BIOS and seeing if there is a setting to turn your wifi card of or on. To enter the BIOS you need to press F2 when you boot up.

I have 3-4 of these laptops in my cubicle all apart. I believe the wifi card is on the motherboard right next to the processor. i would try reseating that. Also in the bios im pretty sure you can enable/disable the mini pci slot or adapter. ...hmm or maybe that was a dell i was recently working on... Anyway, make sure the mini pci is enabled in bios, reseat the connections on the motherboard, make sure switch is turned on. sounds like you've done most of those.

I can supply a picture of its location on the motherboard if you want.
