I've been shopping around for a laptop for the past couple of weeks and came across the Satellite Pro L300 on NewEgg.
Seems like it would be a good laptop for the price and was just wondering if it would be a good deal.
Would it be a good deal or should I look for another? Any help is appreciated.![]()

depends on what will u do on it
-
Well, mostly just surfing the Internet and Word Processing.
No heavy gaming or anything. Nothing too intensive. -
then get dell vostro 1500 or hp dv 6700,or if u need something more specific, then fill the faq
-
Guess I'll fill out the faq. I was mainly looking at the Toshiba laptop in my first post because it was $100 off and had XP on it.
I would like to get one from NewEgg since I need to grab a few other things from there and I was going to use my NewEgg credit card. Don't want to sign up for another credit card with a manufacturer just to get a laptop from them.
General Questions
1) What is your budget?
$500-$700
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
c. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
3) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in.
I'm buying it in the USA.
4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
I was thinking of a Toshiba, but I'll buy any brand as long as the company has a good reputation.
5) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
Mainly just web surfing and using programs like OpenOffice.
6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
I'll be taking it out of town if I happen to be spending the night at a hotel or something.
7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
Probably not. If so, it'll probably be something like Diablo 2, nothing too intensive.
8) How many hours of battery life do you need?
2-3. 4 would be nice, but I doubt I'd be away from a power source for that long.
9) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
I don't mind. I was thinking of getting one from NewEgg.
10) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc.
I prefer XP since I'm most familiar with it. Not ready to switch to Vista just yet.
Screen Specifics
Note - When this FAQ was started many years ago, the split between standard screen notebooks and widescreen notebooks was about 50-50. In the meantime, widescreen notebooks have become the new standard. If you're looking for a standard screen notebook, some people are, you may wish to mention it. There are a few standard screens still being sold, but they're going the way of the Dodo bird.
11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
d. WXGA or WXGA+ - 1280x768/800 or 1440x900; Wider viewing version of XGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
^^Picked that one because I don't want to spend too much.
12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
Matte/non-glossy screen because it might be used outside. Don't want the sun reflecting off the screen.
Build Quality and Design
13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
It would be nice if it looked stylish, but what's "under the hood" is what I care about the most.
14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?
I was hoping to get it this week.
I would like it to last at least a couple of years. Probably won't be a problem though, I still have a laptop from 2001 that's still usable. lol
Notebook Components
15) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 500GB?
I would like it to have at least 100-120GB. At least enough space to store some music to listen to while working and stuff like that.
16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive?
DVD Burner would be nice, but a DVD-ROM/CDRW combo would be okay. No need for a Blu-Ray drive.
