Hey everyone! I pooped up the forum registration and forgot the 'k' and "Satsuki". So please, refer to me as Satsuki! :D (Hoping it will be resolved soon)

I just bought the X205-S7483 (in fact, I haven't even received it in the mail yet, lol). I believe it's a Best Buy exclusive. I got it for $970 (w S/H), which I believe isn't too bad of a deal. lol

    Here are the specs:
    • Core 2 Duo T5450 1.66GHz, 2MB L2, 667MHz FSB (Merom)
    • GeForce "8700m GT" (God knows it's just an overclocked 8600m)
    • 2GB DDR667
    • 240GB HD
    • Intel PM965 Chipset

    (in-dept specs: here)

Since I do not yet have the computer, I don't know what I can fiddle with. I was wondering if anyone has had any prior experience with upgrading this laptop configuration.

Can I easily up the FSB from 667 to 800MHz and upgrade to a (Penryn) T8300 or T9300? Also, is it possible to get DDR800 working in this bad-boy?! It would only make sense, but I'm sure Intel was on crack when they planned the speeds for this platform.

    Thanks,
    Satsuki

The T9300 will work fine, although it requires a complete dissasembly of the notebook there is a bunch of good info on how to do that in this forum. The T9300 will give you a huge increase in your 3dMark score so it would be a good upgrade because the T5450 is definitely going to be the limiting factor with your specs. As for the 800mhz mem sorry but 667 is the highest speed for this notebook. Also, with the addition of some new video drivers from laptopvideo2go you can improve your 3dMark score and enable overclocking for the 8700m. Another simple upgrade is the HDD im assuming your 240GB are 5400RPM. If you want you could swap for some 7200's which is a piece of cake. Good luck with your new machine!

Hey there! I saw the X205 disassembly guide on the forums, looks strenuous, but I'm up for the task! Are you certain it will work? Do I need a BIOS upgrade or anything?

Also, how much have ya'll overclocked your 8700s, while being stable, of course.

This laptop wouldn't happen to be able to run RAID 0, would it?

How are the speakers?! I'm so excited about the speakers!

Thanks a lot for the tips!

yes you do need the latest bios update as it ads support for the penryns you can find it on the toshiba website. sorry no raid 0 the controller doesnt have support for this :( as for the speakers, i have never heard better speakers on any laptop, they are absolutely top of the line! also make sure you get the penryn with the correct socket. i believe it is socket P, but check the threads in here to be sure. there are also a bunch of threads about the 8700m overclocking im not familiar with this as i have the 8600m dualies :)
