    i have a toshiba satellite m 60
    model PSM60C-BK300E
    i have 2 questions
    1. i want to buy more ram to my nootbook, i dont think 512 mb is enough for me.
what kind of ram is in my computer? i want to buy 512 or 1 gb more ram, and whant it to be the same model as in my computer.
does the notebook have dual ram? or will it be better to buy 1gb ram?

    2. the harddisk is to slow for me 4200 rpm is nothing, and i want more speed, does this nootebook have enough space for 2 hd?
eny suggestions to what drive i should buy??

    thanks

    1) You don't need to match brands, I recommend going to Crucial and using them. Do you have 512 in one slot or two? In any event, 1GB is a good place to be.

    2) You would have to remove the current drive and upgrade to a faster model. The Hitachi 7200 RPM 60GB is the best drive on the market in my view.

I agree with Brian, the Hitachi is a very good quality drive and they have been making them for quite a long time so they have a very good reputation. You may want to go with the 100GB Hitachi 5400 rpm drive which will give you near 7200 rpm performance due to the density of the drive and it is almost exactly the same price as the 60GB 7200 rpm drive. If you need maximum performance, though, go with the 7200 drive. Or you could kill two birds with one stone and get the 100GB 7200 rpm drive, but they are still a bit pricey. I have an M60 and mine came with Kingston RAM, I went to NewEgg and got 1GB of PC4200 200 pin DDR2 533MHz KVR Ram. I went with the generic RAM because it still had the lifetime warranty and it has worked great for me since I put it in.

Really for the price, you should just invest in 1 stick of 1GB of RAM instead of another stick of 512 because if you want to upgrade any past 1GB, you would have to take out both sticks and replace them with 1GB sticks. RAM is about the cheapest upgrade you can do to the laptop. I would go with the ATA drive unless you do a lot of photo editing or other things that continually access the hard drive. The difference is the SATA drives have a maximum data transfer speeds of 150 MB/S vs. the 133 MB/s of the regular ATA. They are really fast enough for most people's needs and they are cheaper than SATA's. Nice call on the upgrades, those are the two easiest and performance boosting upgrades that you can do to your laptop. Do you have the ATI X600 or Nvidia 6600 card in your M60? I have the X600 with hypermemory and it really is lackluster in the performance department. It only has 4 pipelines, so it is much more limited than the 6600 and I have been overclocking it to see what I can get for marks in 3dMark05. The stock X600 was getting 1460 and with Omega drivers and overclocking I am up to 1841.

hi jenson it is a FX6600 GO. it rocks ass ;) but many games lag, and i think that 512 mb of ekstra ram would do wonders. i have orderd, ram Kingston 512MB DDR2 4200/533Mhz SODIMM, so that i have a total of 1 gb of ram, think that this is enouhg.
i think i am going to buy a hitachi sata disk, but dont know if my note book suports sata?

thanks again for all your help.

Yes, the 1GB of RAM will definately help the lag. The 6600 card should really be able to play most all of today's games without much trouble. I am not that familiar with SATA drives, but I would think that you could get one and it wouldn't hurt anything if if doesn't support it, it would probably just only have a maximum transfer of the ATA (133MB/sec). It is a new enough notebook that I would think that it would support the SATA drive though.

Hey Big_B bout time you finally upgraded into 2006 :) I would recommend the Hitachi, they have been putting quality drives in laptops for a long time and I haven't heard any negative remarks about the Hitachi. In fact my M60 came from Toshiba with a Hitachi 60GB 5400 rpm drive and I like it quite well. A nice improvement over the 5005-s504's 30GB 4200 rpm drive. Long live Hitachi!

i got my 1 gb ram to day 2 :)'
    it is a nice upgrade.
BIG B did you buy the sata or ata disk?
i heard that you should be careful when you buy a harddisk to a ´notebook, because not all harddisks are exatly as tick. some are a little bigger than others.
does a hitachi disk fit in a M60?

i think you need to get a 2.5" hard drive, because that is the size for laptops. im going to buy hitachi but i havent had time to order one yet. probably going to order one this weekend. im not sure if im going to get ata or sata. there is a lot of information on that subject which i will read soon. i dont think the manufacturer of the hard drive will matter, as long as the hard drive is 2.5"

Yes as long as you get a 2.5" hard drive you'll be fine, my M60 came with a 60GB 5400 rpm Hitachi Travelstar drive, just make sure that your notebook supports the size of the hard drive. Ex. Some notebooks only support up to 80GB hard drives and others 100GB, just be sure that whatever size hard drive you get is supported. The M60 will for sure support the 100 GB drive and the height of the drive according to the detailed specs for the M60 is 9.5mm. Also it says Enhanced IDE (ATA-6) hard drive

I also believe that most Toshiba notebooks will support the 120GB drives as well, as they're only made by Toshiba themselves.
