There is an acquaintance who has a slight problem with their Toshiba laptop. 80% of their screen has black and white lines on their LCD screen. I asked if the lines appeared on a external monitor when plugged in, and they said the lines did not show on the external monitor as it did on the laptop LCD. Is it safe to say that the LCD is malfunctioning/broken and nothing else? I'm almost sure the GPU is not the problem, but am afraid that maybe the connector for the screen or maybe a CCFL bulb if the screen is old may be a problem. It would be a lot of help if you guys can provide your input so I can tell them for sure what probably is the problem.

Thank you for your input. I have another friend with a cracked led/lcd screen. I will be fixing that this weekend, than I will test the first laptop with screen problems like your link suggests. Best to mess with the screen and connector first before ordering a replacement screen.
