There is an acquaintance who has a slight problem with their Toshiba laptop. 80% of their screen has black and white lines on their LCD screen. I asked if the lines appeared on a external monitor when plugged in, and they said the lines did not show on the external monitor as it did on the laptop LCD. Is it safe to say that the LCD is malfunctioning/broken and nothing else? I'm almost sure the GPU is not the problem, but am afraid that maybe the connector for the screen or maybe a CCFL bulb if the screen is old may be a problem. It would be a lot of help if you guys can provide your input so I can tell them for sure what probably is the problem.

This is a good site that can help troubleshoot problems with screens: Laptop Repair Help ยป Laptop screen shows strange colors. What could be wrong?
Although, it does sound like it is a faulty screen; since external screen is ok, that usually means the motherboard is fine.
Hopefully others can chime in on this. Good luck -
Thank you for your input. I have another friend with a cracked led/lcd screen. I will be fixing that this weekend, than I will test the first laptop with screen problems like your link suggests. Best to mess with the screen and connector first before ordering a replacement screen.
