Hey all, I was reading some threads about screen upgrades and decided to do it on my new Qosmio X775 - 7272. I wasn't happy with the stock screen or the 1600x900 res.

    I picked up a 1080p screen out of a dell XPS17 (Non 3D version) from laptopscreen.com.

Not a bad deal, the connections and everything matched, install was a breeze.

One issue I ran into - because this computer uses optimus and intel HD graphics drivers that are altered by toshiba. You have to uninstall the included Intel graphics drivers, and download the reference ones straight from intel.
Then re install the Nvidia drivers(also direct from nvidia) - viola! 1080p screen upgrade.

It looks fantastic, great viewing angle, great contrast, bright colors, and you cant see the lines in lcd panel like the stock one.

I also wrote a quick review of this laptop on amazon here: Amazon.com: Robert L. Magni "Bawb3"'s review of Toshiba Qosmio X775-Q7272 17.3-Inch Gaming...

Please note, being that this is my first post - I am not affiliated with Toshiba/laptopscreen.com/amazon, I just wanted to put this info out there because I could not find any myself while doing research.

    That's great! Nice job!
I noticed in your review you said battery life was dismal... what is the realistic battery life like?

    Also, welcome to NBR! :)

    Thanks :)

The battery life is indeed pretty bad, you can get about an hour out of it, maybe more depending on what you are doing.

If you use Toshiba's eco mode which turns the brightness down and all the LED backlighting and such - It saves a little power but not much.

If you're just web browsing, probably an hour and a half if you're lucky.

Being that it's a desktop replacment / gaming computer, there aren't many situations that I wont be near an outlet anyways.

It's a bit too big to bring to class with me, plus I have a tablet if I need that.

Ah ok. I was wondering because I thought it came equipped with Optimus (hybrid GPU), so I was hoping to hear about a longer battery life. An hour and a half is a little discouraging :/

    Thanks for sharing your experience!

Yeah, hopefully we will get some aftermarket solutions for the battery.
Otherwise I'm loving this computer, especially with this new screen.

Was the screen model this one?

    Compatibility: Dell XPS 17 L701X
    Size: 17.3-inch WideScreen (15.5"x8.98")
    Resolution: WUXGA (1920x1080) Full HD
    Type: Glossy
    Backlight type: LED
    Condition: New Grade A+
    Warranty: 3 Years

I'm very tempted to do something similar. I like the new Qosmio X775, except,
    1) Only 3D model comes with 1080p screen.
    2) Nvidia GTX 560m driver is very difficult to upgrade

By installing this Dell XPS 17 screen, the problem could be solved.
    1,279.99 + 119.99 = 1399.98, not bad.

How hard was the installation process? Taking the screen off, opening the case, etc? Were you able to install latest Nvidia GTX 560m driver? Any issues?

Could you please post some details on the screen swap. Specifically the screen part number and any driver specifics and locations.

    Thanks

Well the thread is a bit old, but since i agree with you, i moved it to Toshiba anyways where Toshiba users are more likely to look for it.

Huge thread necro-ing here, but I'm really kinda wondering if I can upgrade this screen too... it's been four years since the OP's upgrade took place and I am honestly wondering if ANYONE knows which screen this guy used?

Hello, was just wondering if you got the upgraded screen and if it worked. I have a x775 Q7380 with a broken screen and as long as I have to replace it, why not go with 1080
