Hello everyone, I'm just putting this out there and trying to utilize the most useful resource available....the community. I am seeking a video card upgrade for my Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q701. Before anyone says that it's impossible, I've seen the inside, the vga board is discreet and modular (removable), so it is possible. The problem I keep having is when I call the national parts depot for toshiba, they wont sell me anything I cant give them a part number for. So to anyone that owns and X305 model with a non-SLI video card that's more powerful than the 9700mGTS with it's 48 cores, perhaps you could help a fellow enthusiast out with a part number, or even the model number of your laptop, so that I can order the part I need. Thank you for reading, and your consideration....any help is welcome...

This could potentially benefit all Q701 owners.

FYI that the 9800M GTX and / or 9800M GT will also fit in the Qosmio F55 series that also currently has the 9700M GTS. So please someone give us the part number so we can upgrade our laptops !!!! God Bless

Bump Ba-Bump bump, Bum-ba-bump bum Buummmmp!

Why not call Eurocom or XoticPC? They'll sell you a GTX.
Paying in CAD will save you some dollars. -
Because I'm pretty sure that the connection between the PCB and the motherboard is proprietary, and the PCB is made to a certain specification.
-
Note: This is the OP's picture. -
definitely not MXM.....
so upgrading will be up to Toshiba's proprietary modular availability. -
*claps* wow thanks toshiba!! you always know how to make computer users happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
but i could have sworn it was mxm...man... -

Bump goes the important thread, for enthusiast owners....please, if you have the X305-Q725 or equivalent, help.

Have you tried contacting the OEM directly? Toshiba uses Compal, Inventec or Quanta to manufacture their notebooks. http://tuxmobil.org/laptop_oem.html

It's probably Compal, there is a running process C:\Program Files\COMPAL\UnACmsg.exe

Is this a Toshiba "only" GPU socket or does any other know Notebook maker use it? So if we stick w/ Toshiba, can we order one as a repair or replacement part say like the shops that service them so we can just swap it ourselves. Or will they not sell replacement parts to us average Joes?
So can we get a 9800M part # from a Toshiba owner? Thankx! -

I had a 708 back in November. When I contacted Toshiba tech support about a GTX upgrade I was told it was not possible. The official explanation from Toshiba was that the module was soldered to the system board and could not be upgraded. From what I've been reading here, it seems Toshiba doesn't have a GTX part available yet.
While I did not have the opportunity to take the 708 apart and verify myself, I would guess that if the connection and boards are proprietary to the X305, a Toshiba made GTX part for the X305 is what is required. Unfortunately, only the 725 has such a card in it, and depending on the bios of the 725, may only be good on that unit. Remember also that the 708 (and 706 I think) use a hybrid SLI setup which has a gpu on the mobo as well, something the 725 does not require to work.
Another problem is physical SLI support, if the GTX card in the 725 is a proprietary size or lacks the SLI connector, it will prevent any SLI implementation altogether.
I can understand every X305 owner out there that wants a GTX upgrade, myself included. But it's ultimately up to Toshiba to design, engineer and manufacture the parts for the X305. If they have not done it yet, I'm not sure if they will. Also, if Toshiba does decide to release a dual GTX X305, it will most certainly knock the 708 out for price, pushing it at over $4200 - not many buyers lining up for that.
Toshiba has advised that the successor to the X305 series will be arriving in April. I'm hoping that the X405 will benefit from dual GTX cards and keep everything else that has made the X305 a killer notebook.
Oh, if you're listening Toshiba, a WUXGA display would be cool too!!! -
Did you know that the P45M chipset allows full crossfire? I thought that was ineresting. As well, on Toshiba's website, any model that has an Nvidia chipset, has Nvidia chipset drivers. The 725 does not have these drivers. As for the 9800m GTX being internal, it may very well be, just like on the gateway p 7811 fx. As for the screen, I am replacing mine with a 1900*1200 /17" screen. I'll let you know how it goes, but I have already done extensive research.

Many thanks to Dude55, as the original poster......
"thanks man..i also have great news!

http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Toshiba,Laptop,Part,K000063270.aspx

heres another: not sure which nvidia card:
http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Toshiba,Laptop,Part,K000064080.aspx
that ones $376, still expensive
and heres another:
http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Toshiba,Laptop,Part,K000062220.aspx
$800
http://www.bigestock.com/searchres.php?partno==K000064080 that place has the one that sparepartswarehouse is selling for $376, u need to call for price.
also, just search the numbers on google, and you might come across other websites"
Again, many thanks to Dude55 for his excellent contribution to the community. I think the $376 card is the Nvidia GeForce 9800M GS, and the $800 card is the 9800M GT. The links are fixed. -
Can you please repost the links as they are not coming up for me. All I get is a 'BAD REQUEST' page. Thanks and God Bless -
Done, sorry about that. Now, back to Killzone 2.....

cq842000 and Dude55,
Excellent work, now researching this this is what I have come with to add:
NB9E-GTX = 9800M GTX
NB9E-GS = 9700M GTS
NB9E-GT = 9800M GTS
This one here in this link is the 9800M GTX:
http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Toshiba,Laptop,Part,K000063270.aspx
This one here is the 9700M GTS:
http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Toshiba,Laptop,Part,K000064080.aspx
This one here is the 9800M GTS:
http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Toshiba,Laptop,Part,K000062220.aspx
Might have to wait for tax refund and order the 9800M GTX and put it in my Qosmio F55 -
nice organization, i will add this to the front page of the x305 forums...
the only problem with getting the 9800m gtx is the heavy price tag. its quite ridiculous. even the most powerful desktop gpu is half the price. you could get 2 4870x2's in xfire for $1000 lol
perhaps trying to negotiate the price? the 9700m gts should be $250, the 9800gts $350, and the 9800m gtx $500 -
this will be expensive either way you look at it, mobile dedicated cards are hard to come by in the first place, anyone who has em is gunna charge up the arse
-
-
If they were single slot SLI solutions, they would simply scale to a multi-monitor non-SLI setup as the drivers dictate. So far no one has verified the SLI status of these cards. My guess is that they are singly GPU/Single slot solutions.
-
Actually looking into this more, I *believe* that the 9800M GTS for $797 is for 2 cards. As in the link you will see this for the description:
Toshiba Laptop Miscellaneous: VGA BOARD, NB9E-GT, 1G: VGA Board NB9E-GT, DDRIII 1G
As we all know that in the X305 that came with the 9800M GTS SLI has (2) 9800M GTS 512MB cards. Now $400 a card is still kind of high but I guess about average. So if someone that has a Qosmio F55 (like me) were to purchase this, as the Qosmio F55 only came with the 9700M GT; they could upgrade their laptop and probably sell the other 9800M GTS card to one of the X305 owners that also has a stock 9700M GTS. Or I can be wrong and it does only come with 1 card. Just my thoughts. God Bless

nice idea jdeluna, it definitely could work. if someone is willing to buy the 9800's, i might be willing to get 1
