    Hi,

I'm just curious to know how many of your have sent your laptop into Toshiba for repairs? Good results? Did they try to charge you for services?

I have recently come to learn that UPS (the delivery company) does all the repairs for Toshiba. This does not make sense to me, since it would be in the best interests for UPS to do un-needed repairs and try to charge the customer for services that Toshiba would normally cover (Toshiba probably covers at a reduced rate) [I hear of both of these on Toshibforums].

    Looking forward to replies.

    Alex,

Didn't you know UPS is secrectly known as IBM? It's all driven by money. After UPS screws up a customers lappy, that person will probably just buy another one. Maybe not from Toshiba, but just to go on with life buy one from another company. I really don't believe lappys are worth fixing once out of warranty. Once money starts coming out of your pocket its time to simply buy a new one. I usually keep the old ones for parts. I become amy own serviceman.

I can see where you would buy a new laptop if the cost of the laptop was below a certain threshold (say below $500). But it would be hard to go out and buy a new gaming laptop every 1-2 years (warranty expires 1-2 years).

The thing that baffles me is that I've read instances where "Toshiba" (UPS) will charge the customer for repairs that are due to normal wear. I would really hate to send in my Qosmio and have them call me up and tell me my bad HDD will cost $200 or my BSOD system will cost $400 for a new mobo.

I guess if that were to happen, that's when you take them to small claims court (in my opinion the best and cheapest way to take action).

Small claims court is just a nightmare. Here, where I am NYC its just aweful. Okay, if you win just try and collect the money, yes these are big companies and you would have a better chance of getting your money, BUT to me the time and expense is enough to say the hell with it. :(

I do see your point though.

They sent mine back in pieces! They sub-contract out the work, walk you in circles for three months to break the news that they refuse to be held accountable for their actions! Sorry if there are any typo's my TOSHIBA laptop keyboad doesn't work after the third time its been to UPS for repairs. Im using the onscreen keyboard to type everything! Bought this computer end of April 2010.....been back 3 times, Not fix...You figure out how service is. I bought a new laptop...ITS NOT TOSHIBA!

I wonder if you're having a service problem or a design problem. It may well be that your model just has issues that can't be fixed and the answer is for Toshiba to put on their big boy pants and exchange it for something that doesn't suck. UPS can't do anything about that kind of issue.

Just So We are clear - I've been to the UPS "Repair Depot" and Toshiba IS NOT the only manufacturer who uses the "Repair Depot" services provided by UPS. The "depot" is huge and services other Well Known manufacturers, as not only did I see Toshiba but HP and Dell. -

One recommendation - If you don't want to send your Lappy into the "Repair Depot" then you can always look for a Toshiba ASP (Authorized Service Provider) Global ASP Locator - in your area - They can do RMA work just as well as the "Repair Depot".
