After months of waiting and over 3 years of a defective laptop, namely 5005-s504, they finally sent me the box to send in my laptop to get tested yesterday, so it went out this morning and I am going to get a $1500 voucher for a new Toshiba laptop, so the big question is, which one should I get. I need some recommendations. I am a semi-serious gamer, so I need good graphics, would prefer a dvd-burner, and at least a 15" screen, and I also want wireless and decent battery life. If they have a laptop that is not too thick and heavy would be helpful also. I would probably go a little over the $1500 I'm getting but not much over $1600. Anyone's comments would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks people!

Portege and Tecras are better than Satellites.

Would recommend any unit with a dedicated graphics card as this is best suited for gamers. Anything with shared video memory will lack the power needed for current games.

The Toshiba line up varies on the models that have dedicated video, so you may want to do a bit of research before deciding.

Thanks, I definately want a dedicated video card, the 5005 had a 16 MB NVIDIA card and that just wasn't cutting it, so I either want a 64 MB or 128 MB. I am going to stick with Toshiba because I am getting the $1500 credit voucher for my laptop and just was wondering if there are really good all-around Satellite laptops. I was doing some research, I kind of like the P30 and P35 but they have Pentium 4's and I'm not sure I need that much power, I looked at a M40 and bumped it up to 1 gig of ram and a Pentium mobile processor with a 40 or 60 gig hard drive and a 128 mb video card for around $1500-1600. Anyone have any comments good/bad about any of these machines? This will be a desktop replacement grade laptop I am looking for, but I don't need an obscenely fast machine, I'm not into any heavily graphic games, but would like good quality for mid range graphic games. Not any Doom or Quake games.

    Thanks

    Matt

The Tecra S2 has the 6600 go card which is pretty good.
