I just bought a used Satelitte 1805-S204. After charging it fully and using it for 35 minutes it shows 81% battery charge when it suddenly warns of low battery and then shuts down. Is this a sign of an old battery? or some other problem?
    Thanks for any advice.

Yeah your battery is shot, my old HP is doing the same thing, it's battery will go from 100% to shut down in 15min., but it lasted 2yrs, time for a new battery for both of us!

Seems like Windows isn`t correctly reading the battery, before you go buy a new one try recalibrating it. Google on how to do this if you`re unsure.

    What windows are you using?

You can configure windows to shutdown at 80% battery if you wanted, which you wouldnt want, but maybe someone was messing with settings.

Go into control panel, and look around at your power options.

If you need more specific help I can write better how to do it.

    :)

Li-ion batteries really do have a 3-4 year service life before they die of old age.

This is an issue with the Li-ion battery chemistry inside the battery--so even if the battery sits unused on a warehouse shelf somewhere it is chemically aging itself to death.

BTW deep cycling a Li-ion battery (fully discharging it completely prior to recharging) only speeds up the irreversible chemical aging process. Most Li-ion batteries can only tolerate 100-300 deep cycles before becoming permanently damaged.

Yeah. Same to my problem. However, I found a solution (just for my problem, I 'm not sure if it's ok to your laptop). When my battery is shorting down, my PC changes to standby mode (b/c I set it up into power option). Then I stat my computer again. It will start with about 3% of battery. From now on, I can use my laptop about one more hour :D.

Can anyone explain why it is?

    Thanks.

Yup a new battery was needed. Now I have a new problem. When I shut my cover and have set to go into standby mode, it does not open the system when the cover is again opened, say in a few minutes. This is well before the battery has run low. Same problem on AC.

I'll post another thread on this problem. Thanks.
