    Hello fellow Toshiba notebook users,

I have the Toshiba A305-S6864 and have a question regarding sleep mode. Currently, I have my power options set so that when I close the lid of the laptop it goes into sleep mode. When the laptop is plugged in, once I open up the lid again the laptop turns on. However, when the laptop isn't plugged in and once I open up the lid, I must press the power button for the laptop to turn on. What option can I enable so that if the laptop isn't plugged in, it will automatically turn on once I close and then open up the lid (while in sleep mode). Thanks for your help in advance.

I don't believe there is anything you can do since this would be programmed into the BIOS. However, I can see why they would want to do that; to save battery life. Think, your laptop's in your bag an somehow it gets opened, it turns on, sits there doing nothing. Then when you need it, you pull it out only to find it's on and has 23% battery left. Now, with forcing the power button to be pushed, they remove the accidental opening that could possibly happen. Unfortunately this isn't the answer you're looking for.

EDIT: you could try calling Toshiba and seeing if they know more about this.

Thanks for your response =) The thing that's striking me curious is that it automatically turns on when it's plugged in, but when it's not, it doesn't. Do you think this means anything? I sent an e-mail to Toshiba so i'll be awaiting their response.

Like I said, it's programmed into the BIOS, or rather what seems more appropriate, the ACPI.

I don't think it means anything, it's just the way they decided it should be.

I wouldn't bother with emailing Toshiba (unless they added email tech support since I last checked), I'd call them to make sure I get a real answer.

I have found the best work-around is to set the Lid Closure action to Do Nothing for both battery and mains, then nothing happens when the lid is opened.

This behaviour is then predictable and you get used to pressing the power button.

I called Toshiba support and they said that it's normal =P So I won't worry about it, and as mentioned in this thread, it's a smart battery-saving feature =) Thanks again guys.
