I have a Toshiba R10 and it takes a really really long time to turn on (I cant make it go any faster, I have tried everything). Is it okay for me to carry it around all day in a backpack? Do I have to worry about heat or bouncing around the bag more than normal, about about how much battery would be used after about 6 hours of lugging it around?

Well, my A300 is pretty much in a snug case all day, so I don't see why it would be bad to put it in your backpack. What are your temperatures when running the laptop?
If it gets hot while running, then there is a slight bit more of a chance that it will be hot when you turn it back on, but if it stays cool most of the time, then you're pretty good. Remember, laptops are designed to be put in cases. Just make sure it's asleep when you do. When it's asleep, it generates virtually no heat.
As for battery life, my A300 after six hours of being asleep without being charged would probably have very little battery gone. So I assume it would be the same as yours.
