Can someone tell me what software comes loaded on these Toshiba X-205's that I don't need? Specifically I'm trying to figure out what I can safely delete from the hard drive, but I'm also interested in removing as much garbage as possible from the start up process. I'm not real sure how to manage start up programs, un-installing programs is easy for me though.

Thanks in advance for the help.............

i've done this with my desktop to clear away any programs i don't like starting at start and it has saved me the trouble of closing down all the programs i don't like at start up

    windows-r (opens up run)
    type in "msconfig"
    click on the startup tab
unclick all the stuff you don't need
    click on restart

it should now load up without the programs you disabled.

its worked on my desktop and it should work on your toshiba. just be careful you know which programs you disable tho.

    hope that helps.

Therein lies the problem, I'm not sure what I need running and what I can shut down and remove from that list. Thanks for the help though.

this info is more for vista
    keep the toshiba applications...
    -voliume indicator
    -button support
    -power saver
its safe to get rid of the rest of the TOSHIBA apps but disabling them in msconfig will make them no longer work, even if they are re enabled!!!
-also get rid of abdobe and google junk
    - anything not related to microsoft, windows, sympatics, and your antivirus
    - be sure to back up your system just in case...
-whale you are there you may want to go to the boot tab and change the timeout to 5 seconds, that will speed up startup and shutdown.
other ways to speed up your system boot and improve preformance avalable at

autoruns from Microsoft is an easy tool for trying things. Open the program, and click on the "login" tab. You can Unclick items to keep them from loading at startup, then actually delete them (or uninstall) the ones that don't seem to be necessary.

I don't know about your model, but when I still had the OEM Vista install, uninstalling Picassa killed the CD-drive.
