Okay, I haven't been here in a while, but way back in 2010, I purchased (and reviewed) a Qosmio X550-Q893 gaming laptop. Actually, I still have that machine and use it as a backup.

Anyway, in 2013, I bought an X70-A with:

    Toshiba Qosmio X70-A
    Windows 8.1 64-Bit
    DirectX 11
    32 GB RAM
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40 GHz (8 CPUs) ~2.4GHz
    GeForce GTX 770M - 3GB of GDDR5 memory with Optimus™ technology
    256 GB SSD - DDR3-1600
1.0 TB HD at 5,400 RPM (would probably install this game on the SSD, though)

That laptop is still pretty fast, though the GPU is starting to show its age with some games, most notably Just Cause 3, which launches in a couple of days.

So probably this coming Spring, I am going to be buying another gaming lappy. I have been monitoring Toshiba, but they seem to only be making business and personal laptops.

Is there any news about Toshiba coming out with new gaming laptops?

I know what you mean, I bought an X505 q896 several years ago and as you said it's still a fine Notebook but showing it's age. I upgraded mine from the i7 740m to the i7 920MX to boost the preformance a bit, but it's still getting old. I'Ve waited for Toshiba to come out with another Notebook along the same lines but it just hasn't happened. The high end Gaming Notebook market seems to be dominated by name brands that are more associated with gaming than Toshiba. Too bad, in the day I would have put against just about any of the other Gaming Notebooks. It's been a real reliable workhorse over the years. I'll keep as a backup also but just ordered a Clevo P870DM as a replacement. Gonna miss that 18" screen though.

Yeah, it looks like when I upgrade lappies, I will have to go for an Asus or another model. Too bad, I really love both my Qosmios.

I have had my X500 for several years now and its a real rockstar. Other than the fans got plugged with dust once its been an incredible machine. It runs pretty much 24/7 and never even had a fan noise issue. Obviously they put good quality components into these machines. It still plays games decent too. I got my for a song when they were not selling. About 50% off MSRP.

Oddly enough, I still have my X505-Q893 and even with its i5 processor, before Sandy Bridges I might add, it is a great machine. Its sturdy, runs well, plays most of my games at very high settings (except for some of the new ones, of course) and for a 5+ year old machine is a real trooper.

I use it only as a backup, but I have to break it out, dust it off, and make sure it still works lol.

My main machine is my current Qosmio, but I can't help but to wonder why Toshiba seems to be out of the gaming laptop business.
