Ok here is the deal. I bought a Toshiba Satellite P10, read the specs here:http://www.toshiba.ca/web/specifications.grp?lg=en&section=1&group=1&product=2391&part=2311

I have the Instant DVD 2.0 from ADS Tech, that lets you record to your computer video content from tv etc. The thing is when the unit is plugged in and has all the connections in, when I plug in the USB 2.0 cable to any of the USB 2.0 ports on the computer it completely freezes up my computer. If I pull the USB cord out of the port, computer is then fine.

I have tried it with and with out SP2, I have the drivers from the ADS sITE and the origninal disk. Nothiing works, it still freezes up. I have a brand new Printer/scanner/Copier 3 in one and that works fine on all the USB ports, and I have other accessories that work fine with the ports.

As well the unit works just fine on my old laptop that I origianlly used it on. No freeze ups and its has the old USB 1.1 on it. Does anyone have any ideas as to what's wrong?

I believe the problem is with your OS. Windows XP Media Centre Edition is known to be a bit flaky. There was a user on the HP forum that mentioned the ZD7000's that have the MCE OS's was known to cause problems. The older system you have is probably running XP Home/Pro or even an older OS. You may want to try chnaging the OS to XP Home/Pro (preferably Pro) and see if the problem persists (just a suggestion).

How would I do that? Would I have to get rid of the OS I have or do I just put the Win XP HOME/PRO over top of it?Would I have to get an Upgrade or the whole version of these? Sorry but I 'm kinda clueless about computers and don't want to screw up my new laptop badly.

The only problem with this, is the fact that you'd have to buy the software as a test to see if this will even fix the problem. Install clean, meaning wipe the entire HDD then install the new OS, this way all the old files won't cause any compatibility problems. Just make sure you backup all your data first.

If you already use XP Home/Pro on a different system, you can try using that OS disc and install into the P10 and see if it works. Normally you can't do this legally, but since it's just a test and I'm gonna assume you're gonna be wiping the drive or buying another copy of the OS, then it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Other than that, you'd have to buy another OS just as a test. You can also try contact ADS and see if they can provide a solution before you go and buy another OS or wipe your system. It may just be a driver issue.

    Good luck!

Well I ditched the Instant DVD 2.0, and got the Plextor px m402 capture device and it works fine.
