I am hoping someone here can help me. When I started my computer today, I had a window pop up that said - "Warning: Volume Control Cannot be Accessed"
I have never received this warning before, and I got it again after restoring my computer to what I thought was a good, stable point. I tend to leave my computer on standby and don't restart very often though, so it may have been caused by something I did much further back.
I had to restart today though because my computer froze up. I don't know if it's related to this problem.
I installed JetAudio software a couple days ago, and was trying to convert some of my videos for my new Cowon A2 when it froze (I was trying to empty the recycle bin at the time.)
Anyway... I think my volume control has been missing from the quick launch tray for a while. The sound still works and can be adjusted with the mechanical control on the front of the notebook. I would like to be able to mute it at times, or at least make sure the audio volume can be turned up as high as possible.
I have noticed since I first got this notebook that, when I bring up the "Advanced Volume Controls", it only has CD Audio, Microphone, Line In, and Wave Out Mix which don't affect the volume of the various files I play. Is this normal for Toshiba notebooks? My desktop had other ones which changed the volume overall, and then I could adjust it further within my media player.
Do the Toshiba notebooks not include this, perhaps because of the mechanical volume control? When I first got the computer, I recall being able to adjust the basice volume from the quicklaunch icon at least. Now it's gone.
Should I just ignore the warning that seems to come up everytime I restart my computer that the volume control cannot be accessed?
Has anyone here had that problem or know what it means or what could have caused it?
I also installed TotalRecorder a couple weeks ago and the TR drivers are now the default device for sound playback and recording. Would that cause the warning? I don't think I've restarted since I installed TotalRecorder, but I had it installed on my desktop for years and never had a problem.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! I haven't been able to find anything on the web about this so far. Thank you.![]()
ETA - The Volume page under Sounds and Devices is totally grayed out. Is that normal?

Happens when your audio drivers are uninstalled. Go to toshiba and download and install the sound drivers

The sound page from control panel was now no longer grayed out, so I was able to get a volume icon in my task bar again, but I'm still wondering about the lack of a master volume control in the advanced volume control settings. Is that normal for Toshiba Notebooks? My desktop also had a wave volume control that made a big difference.
Thanks for your help.
