Hey guys,
Im brand new at this forum but i had some stupid questions i was hoping someone could help me with. Two months ago i purchased my first ever laptop.Up until now i always had desktops and even built a few but found myself in need of a more compact mobile solution.I found a great deal on a Toshiba Qosmio F-25 series media center notebook and began upgrading it to suit my needs. Now heres where the dumb questions come in.The laptop came installed with media Center 2005 it also came with a IR reciever and media center remote.and another small cable which i have no idea what it is for.

According to what i could find it's called an IR Transciever yet i can not figure out what its function would be and there is nothing about it in the notebooks manual.
My Second question is about the IR reciever.

This is obviously for use with the media center remote control however on the rear of the reciever there are 3 connections, one USB for connecting to the notebook and two "mini/headphone" jacks labeled "1" and "2" which i can not find any info about there uses.
Any help that you all could give would be great and thanks for the patience with my stupid questions![]()

Hmm did i put this in the wrong place or does no one simply know the answer lol.
thought i would add the IR reciever has Toshiba Remote Control Reciever model number g83c00053110 on it.If thats of any help. -
Unless your laptop has a built-in Infrared (IR) sensor, the computer will be unable to detect any signal from the remote control. The IR sensor connects via USB to your computer to allow the computer to see the signal from the remote. Most USB IR sensors allow for additional IR sensors to be connected, although they are typically not needed. The headphone jacks you ask about are to connect the additional IR sensors for remote locations or additional range. Similar systems are included with several PCI and PCI-express TV Tuner cards.
