Hi,
I was going to stick it out with Vista but a program I need only works on XP (I've tried various things but I can't get it to work in Vista) so I am contemplating upgrading (yes upgrading) my OS back to XP.
I do have an older Toshiba laptop with XP but only the recovery DVD. Would this be sufficient to do a XP install on my U300? I've located the driver download page on Toshiba's website but I just wanted to make sure that a successful switch to XP has been done with the U300 before I go and potentially wreck my laptop.

You should have a look at the link I posted in my original message - it has a media driver for U300.
So do you know if I can use a recovery DVD from a different model of Toshiba to install XP?
Thanks

Hello,
I installed XP on my U305 and its fully working, I used the drivers from the page you listed and others of the Toshiba USA page.
The main difficulty for my was to ad the Sata driver to the CD of XP, but that was the only problem I had.
As far as I know, you cant use the recovery DVD form a different model. -
One more thing .. I can't open the URL having drivers it may be coz of IP address in start which is usually blocked by my ISP. SO any mirror ??
thanks; -

Idk if that helps, but I think is the same address only with words hehe.
To use nLite you should look in google on how to add the driver to the CD. You should download the Intel Matrix Storage Manager (SATA) from the website.
I remember using this "tutorial" but is in spanish, I dont know if that helps tough.
