Hello,
I have owned a Toshiba A65-S126 notebook for almost two years. The Synaptics touchpad it came with has always had some issues, but started seriously acting up recently (about 6-9weeks ago.) The original problem with the touchpad was phantom movements - i.e. the cursor would move even if my finger was inches away from the touchpad, and invariably end up in a corner of the screen. It would be a virtual wrestling match to pull the cursor out of there and to the desired area on the screen. This issue, however, only happened once every few weeks if I was lucky.
The current problem with the touchpad began, as I stated, 6-9 weeks ago. It seems that one day I suddenly lost all tap-to-click functionality. I tried reinstalling the driver, rolling back the driver, cleaning the touchpad with electrostatic dust cloths, fiddling with the Synaptics settings and resetting them.... all to no avail. Still, the touchpad was still usable (I could still move the cursor around without too much trouble, and use the regular buttons to click when I needed to.)
The problem accelerated a few days ago. Now, I am unable to even move the mouse cursor for extended periods of time - it will just freeze onscreen and the Synaptics taskbar icon will record no movement. (The Synaptics Pressure Graph utility will intermittently record some pressure, though.) Then, just as randomly, movement will start up again (although it is very jerky.) The bottom left hand quadrant of the touchpad appears to give the best control of all, oddly enough.
So, I have a few questions: What caused this erratic behavior in the touchpad and what can I do about it? And, can I restore tapping functionality or is my touchpad unsalvageable?
I would greatly appreciate any help in this matter, as this computer is an integral part of my business and I cannot afford to waste too much time jockeying with the touchpad.

Mine isn't working either. I'm not sure when it quit as I always use a wireless mouse. I clicked the icon and it said it's on but it's not working. Any help guys, pretty please!!!
