I bought a Toshiba X205-S7483 from Best Buy earlier this year and I've recently been having issues. My PC would randomly be off when I got home but it was only a few times so I didn't investigate it at all. Last night I tried to play WoW (I don't game) and my machine shutdown on me twice. I installed a program and found that my CPU was fluctuating between 60c at idle and 84c when WoW was on. Are these normal temps?

If not, any idea why it's runnign so hot and what I can do to change this....

My laptop sits on a flat plastic surface so I know nothing is being obstructed as far as I can tell.

you're having some over heating problems. i would call toshiba and get them to service it (clean or change/replace fan). tell them your exact problem.

You can take matters in your own hand and put on artic silver paste on yourself but that may void the warranty.

the other thing you can do is under volt your cpu. But i would really only do that if the warranty is up.

undervolting + (clean and new thermal paste) would really help your temps out.

Those temps are slightly high but within the specifications, I'd look to the GPU as a possible cause. You could always check out the performance and reliability monitor and see if anything is odd.

The CPU isn't overheating, see above.

Undervolting doesn't void your warranty, the worst it does is BSOD, though with the T5450 I wouldn't worry about it (since it should be able to go to the lowest voltage on highest multiplier). Check out the undervolting thread for more info.

I'm such a fool. I brought it in to work and used some compressed air to blow out the fans. Temps dropped to 44c at idle compared to 60c+
