    Hi,

I had a T9300 installed in my X205-S7483. Vista and Everest recognize the T9300 and all seems well but it wont play a movie, game, or music smoothly without glitches. It doesn't happen when the original T5450 is reinstalled. I'm running the latest BIOS version (2.5) and have tried both 666mhz and 800mhz RAM. have seen many mentions of successful upgrades here and on Newegg. Any ideas? Possible that it is a bad processor? Is the X205 not compatible?

    Thanks.

Your laptop is refusing the processor because it is still in love with the T5450 and it would like you to sell me the t9300 lol. Hmm, that's a strange problem, I would guess it is a bad CPU.

It is updated to the latest version 2.5 (for X205) from Toshiba's website. It seems to have worked for others on this forum.

    Version 2.50 - 2008-06-21
o Implemented a workaround for an Intel ICH8M SATA Init LPM issue.
o Corrected: Black or blue screen when resuming from S3 with an ICH8 B2 chip.
    Version 2.30 - 2008-02-18
o Disabled the Atheros XB63 WLAN ASPM L0s function.
o Updated Penryn CPU micro code.
o Updated Merom CPU micro code.
    Version 2.30 - 2008-02-18
o Disabled the Atheros XB63 WLAN ASPM L0s function.
o Updated Penryn CPU micro code.
o Updated Merom CPU micro code.
    Version 2.20 - 2008-01-21
o Added a BIOS workaround for Santa Rosa Penryn false thermal shutdowns that may occur in the S4 (hibernate) state.
    Version 2.10 - 2008-01-15
o Corrected: BIOS Password is set automatically after updating the BIOS in Windows Vista x64 using Winflash64.
o Updated Penryn CPU T8100/T8300/T9300/T9500 Micro code.
o Added a BIOS workaround for Santa Rosa Penryn false thermtrip issues that may occur in the S3 (suspend) state.
o Modified the thermal function and added a fan table for Penryn CPUs.

    Any other ideas?

    Here are the stock specs:

No, T9300 is not a bad cpu, example my T7250 2mb 2.0Ghz HP laptop is working faster then T9600 6MB 2.8Ghz (Qosmio x300-13o) somtimes... But when I play games or somthing last one is ofcourse much better, example on startup I can open my wep browser (IE) same second my deskop appers up...

    (sorry my english)

Have you run Orthos or Prime 95? It may be that you have a bad CPU.

    Hmmm, thats strange.

I put a T9300 in my X205 back in August, and have had zero problems with it.

    1. What are your temps looking like on the CPU?

    2. Is it a retail/oem T9300?

    3. Also, (dumb, I know) did you apply thermal grease AS5 etc?

Sorry to hear you are having this issue, because I know what a pain it is to change out the processor in the X205.

    Hi,
Yes it's a retail T9300 in a sealed box. Used Arctic Silver and temps are low (45C).

Vista rated it as a 5 under the experience index.

I tried running the everest stress test. I'm not sure what to look for except voltage jump/variations. It ran fine, as in maintained a steady voltage but I'll try the orthos or prime95 too.

Could the motherboard in the X205-S7483 be different from the other X205's? The specs seem to be the same as all the other models except for the T5450. I can look at the serial/model number and post it here later. It looks identical to the pictures in the disassembly guide.

Called Toshiba and they were no help. Called Intel and they referred me to Toshiba.

Is there something I need to change in the Bios? Could it be sound or video drivers?

Just want to exhaust my options before I remove it.

    Thanks in advance again.

No, I also have an X205-S7483 with T5450 stock. Shouldn't be a driver issue, if its music and video. When I installed mine, I flashed the bios, and then installed the processor, and worked perfect.

Guess you can double check the bios flash was successful, and if possible try out the processor in another pc? Maybe a bad cpu as someone else mentioned.

With the temps normal, i'm really not sure what it could be, seems you have done everything correct.

Thanks, at least I now know that the X205-S7483 can be successfully upgraded with the T9300 without anything but a BIOS update.
Are you running BIOS version 2.5?
My BIOS says that it is 2.5 so it must have been a successful update...

It looks like it must be the chip.

I was told that usually the cpu either works or doesn't work. That's why I'm puzzled.

Hmm, I have an issue with mine in Vista that is related to the power management and throttling of the CPU, which keeps it at half speed until I disable "normal throttling" with Rightmark CPU Clock Utility... I have to actually force it to run at full speed, and my gaming performance was AWEFUL until I figured that out! Didn't have this problem in XP, but then went back to Vista, and ever since it's been doing it. Curious if you may have a similar problem.

Also, under WEI, my Processor is rated at 5.9.

What's the clock speed showing up in under Everest under the CPU Speed? Also, what about multiplier and FSB?

And, just for the record, mine's a 205-SLi1 upgraded with the T9300, and has ran great for almost a year now except for the throttling problem in Vista...

I ran Orthos and no errors were detected in any of the tests.

    Using CPU #0
Beginning a continuous self-test to check your computer.
Press Stop to end this test.
    Test 1, 4000 Lucas-Lehmer iterations of M19922945 using 1024K FFT length.
    Test 2, 4000 Lucas-Lehmer iterations of M19922943 using 1024K FFT length.
    Torture Test ran 10 minutes 1 seconds - 0 errors, 0 warnings.
    Execution halted.

Any ideas? Power managment in Vista or the Toshiba power manager? Someone on this thread suggested that he had problems with Vista and the T9300.

Hey, my bad! I must have glanced at my WEI score wrong last night, mines a 5.4, not a 5.9....ha, must have mistaken the 4 for a 9 at a glance.... my bad, so yeah, your T9600 at 5.6 sounds correct ;-) My apologies!

as for rightmark Clock utility, check out http://cpu.rightmark.org/ for info on what it does and to download if you want it

    Hi,
So you flashed to bios in your S7483 before you installed the T9300?

I guess I could try again using your method. I'd have to flash to the new version with the T5450 installed.

Just to make sure, you have no issues running the T9300 in the S7483? No hanging or glitching?
Could you tell me what versions and types of utlities you have installed (i.e. Toshiba Power Management etc.) , your settings (vista power ?, bios?), nvida driver, bios version, memory speed and make, and anything else you might think that is applicable so that I can set it up exactly like yours to eliminate everything but the chip?

    Thanks in advance.
