I bought a TE2000 refurb around 2 years ago and here recently it has been getting a lot hotter than usual and then it shuts off. I'm guessing it shuts off because it overheats. I saw in one post it could be a bios upgrade, but i would like some opinions of people on here who have experience with toshiba laptops.

    Any advice is very appreciated.

Try blowing out the vents and fans with canned air before anything else. Try the simple fixes first and see if they help. If not, a little AS5 might be what you need. If all else fails, maybe you will need a bios upgrade.

I'll have to take it apart tonight and blow it out good. Where can i find AS5 and how much is it? This is just my back up laptop so I'm really not too afraid to do anything to it since it's getting old on me

Well, took my laptop apart today, sprayed it out thouroughly with the canned air and now my computer won't turn on. I went back through and checked all my connections. When i press the power button, the hard drive spins a little and then clicks. The hard drive light comes on and then off at the same time. And now it won't do anything. Could my hard drive be bad? Or did i just ruin my computer?

Wish you'd have just blown out the vents and fans first . . .

Not sure whether blowing canned air directly on your drive can cause damage, but I doubt you've broken anything or ruined your machine. A clicking hd is not a good sign, though. You've probably disconnected something or jarred something else loose.

I know you've re-checked all your connections, but if the problem were mine, I'd check again, and also would reseat RAM - just to be sure it's still solidly in place.

That was the first thing i did and it still shut down after 20 minutes of use so that's when i did a more thorough cleaning and nothing wants to work. There's no activity at all when i hit the power button now. Obviously i screwed something up! I've taken out every drive and made sure it was properly inserted in its position. I'm out of ideas. Wish i would've just went with the AS5 in the first place and i wouldn't be in the situation i'm in now.
