well to break the ice, im really glad i found this place, IM new to this forum but not new to laptops or computer industry. I am a certified toshiba Technician (no i don't work for Toshiba) so i can get any teardown guides and part numbers, such and such. I own 3 toshibas,

1.Toshiba Satellite A45-S151 Modified with a 3.2 pentium 4 desktop chip, and a 7200 rpm 80 gig seagate drive, 1 gig of ram
2.Toshiba Satellite A75 Modfied with a 7200 rpm 80 gig hardrive (also seagate) 1.5 gigs of ram (max it will hold)
    3. And my new Toshiba Qosmio G35-Av600 Got it brand new for $600 through my company just a week ago,-Future plans are to Swap the M.B with the Av660, put a 7200 rpm Sata 100 gig harddisk, and swap the screen for the av660, and then put 2.0 gigs of 5300 ddr2 memory in it Hopefully will start the task before the 23rd :)

Now im offering my services for tear down guides not listed above this thread, so if you need one let me know and start a list, and make website with all request

Pics below of my rigs :)
Starting form the left, Qosmio, A75, A45

I drilled holes in the A75 and A45 for heating related issues, all toshibas laptops have a common problem with heat dissipation especially the notebooks with the p4's non centrino

    G'day to overdrive.
I am handy with a screwdriver but lack some technical info. Bin searching the world-wide-confusion on an answer, hope you can help.
I'm running on a Toshiba M60 (p#PSM60A-02F00D). and would like to upgrade the Matshita/Panasonic UJ-840s DVD drive to another. There is nothing wrong with the drive except it is RCP1 LOCKED.
Problem is which drive to use?

THE PROBLEM: Need a drive which is NOT RCP1 Locked, though I don't mind running emulation software. (ANYDVD works fine on my compaq Prasario)
Any suggestion of drive would be welcome (DVDRW DL) but would need a suitable driver/Firmware to suit Toshiba. Thks.

    To answer your question BugOne..

I need to know first what Os you are running, Media Center 2005, Xp Home or Pro, If its Oem (meaning it came with your computer, Toshiba) or you installed xp or whatever sepratly,

Reasons i asked is the Oem version that toshiba installs of windows has a lock imbeaded into windows for region 1 (there are ways around it)

Heres a good Article on whats RCP1 Lock means.. May be good info here as for you Bugone

    http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=239

i need some more information before i can help ya, what kind of dvd drive are you looking for, one thats unlock and will play all dvd, Problem with sticking a different model drive(meaning one thats not supose to belong to the m60 class) faceplate will not tack back on.

    Cheers for the info.
I'm running an OEM version of Windows XP Pro. and Windvd 5.0 for Toshiba
I am happy to change the faceplate. I tried fitting the drive from my friends Dell (Philips SDVD8820), which is where I discovered the FW issues, and had to remove the faceplate to make it fit. Also, looking at the faceplate it would not be too hard to trim it neatly to fit (note: the takky OEM one doesn't even sit flush).
And Yep, I'm chasing a drive that will play dvds from any region but like I say I'm happy to run emulation software like ANYDVD. ANYDVD works fine on my Compaq Presario but wont work on my Toshi.

    Cool!

Allow me to introduce myself. I`m on a bit of a queste to clear up the for around MXM and to make those cards available to a public as wide as I can.

Toshiba has been a bit of an enigma up till now… They use MXM physical connectors but they also take a lot of liberties regarding the formfactor. So I`m not sure if a MXM card would work in a Toshiba.

    Any idea?

    Very cool!

Welcome to NBR :) I'm sure your advice on Toshibas will be invaluable! I was thinking of sticking a Pentium-M in my L100 once the warranty expires but (as long as I get a job after I graduate) I'll probably just buy a new Asus A8 or Zepto.

as again i don't work for toshiba, so bugon ill be looking into that but don't have answer off the top of my head... for ice-tea, toshiba likes to be unique in there designs (example Qosmio G35, Look at picture above) you really havn't seen a laptop like that, and toshiba has there technology on a tight lockdown, as for future models go, toshiba has been looking and talking with nivida, intel and chip makers, on possibilies of upgrdaes for there laptop, This is where MXM will take place. so to partly answer your question, toshiba does reconzies these small companys such as Voodoo which an adverage retail store consumer would't see.

Well, to further the discussion a bit, would you mind taking a look at this?

Furthermore, I`ve been dying to get someone to try a `regular` MXM card... Interested?

mmmm... thats intresting, as im not aware of all aftermake parts for toshiba, Toshiba was orginaly going to design and upgrade with the minipci slot that yyour wireless card fits in, It owuld have an auto select feature allowing the chipset of bus to determain if its PCIE 1x, 4x, or 16x card, but yet they are running in to chipset, and compatibility with this idea, so if they ever got it working its news to me :), like i said before toshiba likes to be orginal and claim everything is there idea :), I plan to overhaul my qosmio g35 with a new motherboard and a custom cooling system,

Front Side, look at the white slot

So, the white slot is the graphics slot? Not MXM for sure. Looks more like the Acer SODIMM latch-like approach.

If you ever find more info or need some on MXM, you know where to find me ;)
