Hello
I have a Tecra 8100 that intermittently locks up. The CPU is an 850 MHz and I also have a 750 MHz that I hade swapped in thinking it was the CPU. The laptop will lock up/freeze when there is a lot going on in regards to processes/applications, in particular when cruising the web which is what this laptop is usually used for. It seems to be heat a related issue because it is hot when it locks up and the fan going like crazy. The system will lock with both the thermal pad on and off (using thermal grease).
Things I have done in order to alleviate the issue:
1 Swapped out CPU
2 Used thermal grease instead of thermal pad and vise versa
3 Replaced memory and used different memory configurations
4 Replaced hard drive and/or reimaged laptop from both recovery CDs and custom build.
The battery is for the most part dead, if I lost power while using it I would have to save and power it down within a minute or off it goes.
I used to be a Toshiba Tec a few years back but this one is stumping me. I would guess it is a system board but Im trying to nail it down before I give that a try and not be wasting my money. It is still a very functional laptop aside from the inconvenience of locking up when you least expect it.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide in advance.
Regards,
ALD

Have you resolved this issue? I've got the same problem and have the same feelings as to not wanting to waste money.
