    hey everybody,

I dropped my TECRA A4 several times, not bad, and some issues with the screen began. It flickered much at start up, with thin monochrome bands flashing on the screen, then once it hit Windows it would be fine. But then I opened it up yesterday, and something serious had happened: the screen wasn't completely black, but had a few very thin (like 3 pixels) bars going across it. Everything else was black at the beginning, then after 5 or 10 minutes of being on it would light up until I had a snowy white & gray screen, but still no picture.

The fact that it's not completely black but shows some response makes me think it could be fixable, that the LCD hasn't gone out completely. I tried prying open the LCD screen to look for loose cables, but didn't see anything apparent.

I'm just wondering if there's anything else I can try, or if I should look for a replacement. The rest of the computer appears to function normally.

    any help would be appreciated

    thanks

    Wes

I had a similar problem with my Satellite. It turned out that the cable connecting the LCD to the motherboard was loose. The cable was located behind the LCD.

It was a reoccurring problem, which happened after opening & closing the lid a lot.

If you think this may be a case, be careful checking behind the LCD. It's fragile and easily broken.
