As a few others have posted, the Tecra seems to have mysteriously jumped in price a week or two ago. I think I have found where this money is going...to a hidden 'customization charge.' You used to be able to select any base model and configure it to any which way you want. There are only 2 'configurable' (if thats a word) base models now.
I took one of the 'pre-built' models and did a 'self configuration' (by selecting a different 'base model'). It just so happens that it came out to be about $155 more for the EXACT same specs. The Tecra M2-S630 costs $1899, whereas configuring that model yourself costs $2055. Weird. Any thoughts/comments?! Thanks.
Also, if I plan to purchase a M2-S630, is it better to purchase through a retailer? The price is about the same (maybe $50 cheaper at an online retailer), but the largest difference is that they dont charge a sales tax (and Toshiba's site does). If so, what sites would you reccomend? Thanks!!

Hi Flyinback,
I've found newegg to be a excellent place to buy notebooks.
Most of the time you can find prices here even lower than at the manufacturer's own site. They don't have every configuation from every maker, but what they do have is well priced and they ship quickly and are very good in the customer service dept.
Here is a link to their Toshiba listings.

Thanks for that link to Newegg! I was also considering Buy.com, as they seem to be a little lower than the manufacturer as well (and no shipping or sales tax).
Also, after I buy the laptop, can I still go to Toshiba's site and order the SystemGuard warranty (or do I have to buy the computer from them to get the warranty)? Thanks again!
