I purchased a new Tecra M2-S730 (1.6G Centerino with 512 MB, 60GB) recently. Some my main reasons for buying this model was low weight, longer battery life and Bluetooth-ability. I own a Dell Axim with Bluetooth and wanted to get a notebook with built-in Bluetooth to ActiveSync to my Outlook.
The specs seemed to imply that Bluetooth was intgrated. I called Technical Service, they were unclear if Bluetooth was or was not integrated. Now I am told that it is not. It is very misleading.
Can anyone help?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Ramiyer,
I'm sorry to tell you this, but your system, if not custom config'd at time of purchase and is just the basic M2-S730, does not have Bluetooth integrated. This unit is Bluetooth "Ready", meaning that the system is ready to accept a Bluetooth module when one is added. From the Toshiba.com website, this is what their product info sheet says:
Choice of either:
o Integrated 10/100Base-TX Ethernet, no integrated i.LINK
IEEE-1394, and no integrated Bluetooth v1.1 support (with
the nVidia GeForce FX Go5200 with 32MB graphics); or,
o Integrated 10/100/1000 Base-TX Ethernet, integrated i.LINK
IEEE-1394, and integrated Bluetooth v1.1 support (with the
nVidia GeForce FX Go5200 with 64MB graphics).
Does your system have a 32MB video card or 64MB? Does it have gigabit LAN? If it has only 32MB & no gigabit LAN, then you should have no Bluetooth.

Vb,
Thank you for your response.
Yes, I do have the - Integrated 10/100/1000 Base-TX Ethernet, integrated i.LINK
IEEE-1394, and integrated Bluetooth v1.1 support (with the
nVidia GeForce FX Go5200 with 64MB graphics).
I would think, since the notebook came with WinXP Pro it should also be "intergrated Microsoft Office XP support". But they don't says so on their website. (Pun intended!).
However, they do say Bluetooth v1.1 support.
If Toshiba did not intend to inclued it with the computer then they should NOT have has said "integrated Bluetooth v1.1 support".
The tech rep that I talked to asked me to "delete the Bluetooth RFComm driver under the control panel", and since it did not come back up after reboot, he told me that the notebook did not come with Bluetooth installed. He asked me to look on the backside for the Bluetooth sticker - which is not there.
I checked with CDW.com (my vendor) and they said there is no such custom option - only a special extra card they can sell me for about a $100+.
Can you elaborate on custom build?
Thank you,
Ram. -
What I mean by Custom Build, is that, you can goto the Toshiba.com website and choose to "customize" your notebook. You can choose how much ram, what CPU, the HDD size, etc.... Now, I don't know if every option is available for every unit, but this unit is most likely one of their pre-configured notebooks, so no custom changes. Below is the link to the Toshiba.com site where you can customize the M2 notebooks.
http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/cmod.to?seg=HHO&coid=-26376&sel=0&rcid=-26367&ccid=1291021
From the description of the M2-S730 in the list on that link above, it looks like Bluetooth is not included with the unit, it says it's Bluetooth "Ready", as I indicated on my previous post. Looks like they made some changes compared to their spec sheet for this unit.
If you goto that link and click on the "Customize" button, it has the option for Bluetooth, but that's only for the "Platinum" option, yours is the "Gold" option, which doesn't have Bluetooth.
Talk about misleading! [!]
Try to configure the same unit as the one you have now and see if the price is the same or cheaper. If cheaper, see if you can return your notebook for a FULL refund because you were "mislead" about this issue. You can then purchase a custom config'd unit directly from Toshiba.com.
