    Hi,

I'm considering purchasing this laptop and have questions about it.

The screen is matte wich is good for me, how is its quality ? I read in a review the luminosity is uneven on the screen, is this noticeable on normal use ?

Otherwise, I'm looking for a very quiet pc, does this one feet this need ? how is the fan noise and does it come on often ?
There is an eco mode with one button, does this set the cpu clock speed to 800 Mhz which can be enough on office and internet use and generate much less heat ?

    Thanks for any information

Not sure if there are many with the Tecra R950, but there were a few with last years models of the R840/R850; they are pretty much the same, with the main difference being a newer intel CPU with the r900 series.

Here is a r840 user review with some photos. Both the r_40 and r_50 are identical with the exception of the screen size [40 = 14 inch, 50 = 15 inch].

The Tecra r950 is Toshiba's business class laptops, as they have a protective carbon-fiber mesh body; so they should be very durable and of quality.

Hopefully other owns of the Tecra r9 or r8 series can chime in with additional info.
    Good luck

    ;
Thanks for the information and the very interresting link.
Too bad the screen is not of better quality, is seems to be a common "problem" in many laptops today. The rest of the pc seems to be good and it is quiet which is an excellent thing.

I bought online one of these pc as they are still some with windows 7, which is what I want, and the stocks seems to be low now. Also I can still return it if I don't like it.
Will post my impression here about it.

    Looking forward to your feedback.
If it's not too much trouble, also include some photos as I know many others would greatly appreciate it.

    Good luck!

I have this laptop since a couple of months now so here is a review. It is a core i3, second generation, 15.6" screen running windows 7 64 bits.

This laptop is bigger that esquivalent on hp or samsung for the same screen size and weight more.
    - Keyboard: it isaverage in my opinion, works fine but when you press a key, it is not very deep, so can be a little hard for the fingers.
    - Screen: mat, good but angles, vertical and horizontal are narrow
    - noise: very good on this point, the fan comes on very rarely, well sometime in my case and I use it sometimes on my bed which is not ideal for cooling, but in other cases, the fan doesn't comes on . When it does, it is pretty quiet. The only thing you can hear is the 7200 RPM hard drive but there again, it is pretty quiet. The clicks on the touchpad buttons are very quiet also.
    - Touchpad; not the most precise I've seen, it has a tons of setting that you need to set to have a normal and easy to use touchpad. The buttons clicks are not very precise also, sometime, a single click produce 2 clicks.
    - Sturdiness: good point also, I have it only since 3-4 months, so to soon to say, but it seems to be very well built. The documentation says that when close, the laptop can handle a 100 kg weight ..
    - Performance: they are good, howether, I'm not sure it is faster, even as fast as my previous laptop which was a core 2 duo T8100. Here is the windows performance numbers:

    Proc: 6.8
    Memory: 5.9
    Graphics Aero: 4.8
    Graphics Game: 6.1
    Hard Drive 5.9

    - Heat: the laptop runs always very cool, I believe the fan always turn at a very low speed which is probably an excellent thing to have a cool and quiet laptop.
    - Stability: since I re-installed windows 7 64 bits, i had one freeze, otherwise, goot stability.
-Sound, pretty bad quality, can be tuned with windows equalizer to have better results, which are necessary, but still not very good.
    - Fingerprint utility: there is, between the 2 buttons of the touchpad, a fingerprint device, you can use it to record your fingerprint and after that, you can log on windows with this device that will read your fongerprint, ne need to type your password. It is very convenient and works fine, you just have to move your finger on this device not to fast. If you want, you can still log in with your password, so no need to worry about this device efficiency.

All in all, it is a good laptop that does very well internet and office tasks, the biggest drawback is its size and weight, which are bigger that other laptops with the same screen size (15.6"). Maybe its size has something to do with the fact it always run cool..

EDIT: I found on my pc some virus that are deleted now, they are probably the reason of the freeze mentionned above.

Here are a few pics. Feel free to ask if you have any questions:

Thank you for the thorough review [with photos!] Fkl !!!! :D

Question, does your laptop have the optional "dedicated AMD graphics processor"? It's a bit strange that the "gaming score" is higher than the "aero" score [in my opinion they should have a similar score].
Also, do you have any plans of upgrading the harddrive to an SSD? [from the harddrive you have now]. You would probably experience a significant "speed" improvement.

Good luck and keep us posted with any updates.

    **EDIT**
Nevermind, these threads state the "aero" graphics may be "lower" than the "gaming" graphics due to differences in the 2D and 3D clocks of the graphics unit.

I was surprised also about the graphic scores, the reason of this difference is probably the one you mentionned. My laptop has only the GPU inside the core i3.

Otherwise, I'd like to have a ssd for performance and having no HDD noise but they are still pricey, so will wait until they become more afordable.
