There is only an option for DDR PC2700 memory at the configuration page for this laptop.
The CPU's are being shown as having the 533Mhz fsb and so I'm assuming the platform is the Intel 915PM with DDR2.
Am I assuming wrong since they only have DDR PC 2700 memory available as an option?

Update: I just checked the detailed specs and it does use the 915PM chipset, but the memory specs only show DDR memory, not DDR2.
What's the deal? Toshiba cutting corners?

    Thanks-----Scott

This has concerned me as well and I have asked many places only to hear that the difference is not that great. Actually many people prefer PC2700 due to its lower latencies, over PC3200 or DDR2.

    According to Corsair,

"We can sum up the major advantage of DDR2 in one word: speed! DDR2 starts where DDR stops. DDR2 memory will be introduced at speed grades that are the top limit of current DDR technology. Future DDR2 speeds will significantly outperform the fastest DDR speeds. Plus DDR2 requires 28% less power than DDR chips..."

I sent an e-mail to Corsair asking if current DDR2 memory is actually faster than say PC3200 Cas 2 rated DDR memory.
    Specifically, part# VS512SDS533D2 PC2-4200 512MB 64Mx64 200 SODIMM

On paper it is obviously superior. DDR2 dual channel is DOUBLE the memory bandwidth. I think the difference is triple or even quadrulple. BUT according to some reviews and a Tom's article, performance is not that huge, becaues I heard most of that bandwidth is overkill.

Not a memory related question, but does anyone have information regarding whether or not the S2 is a fundamentally good unit? Say vs. T42, Fujitsu E8000, etc. I have been unable to find any review-type information on the S2 but I am interested in a near max'd version for portable ACAD.
