    Hi,

    I have an Australian Tecra A6 ( http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2801) with the ATi Mobility Radeon X1400 and want to buy a Chimei 22" LCD and run the lappie ouput at 1680x1050 res the Chimei's native resolution. But I checked the res and the max it can do wide screen is 1280x800 but it can go upto 2048x1536.

    I though hopefully a driver upgrade would do the trick. But following the ATI Cataylst Control Center homepage link I found that the Catalyst® Mobility 7.1 Display Driver for Windows XP Professional ( http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/mobility-xp.html) doesn't support Toshiba laptop's and it recommended my manufacturer's website for downloads. But the Australian Tecra A6 driver page has no drivers for x1400 either?

    Just wondering if the Tecra A6 is capable of outputting 1680x1050 and what I need to do it?

    Thanks alot.

    I am running version 6.14.10... of the drivers and attached a screenshot of the Catalyst driver software screen.

    The X1400 should output 1680x1050.

    Just don't expect to game at that.

    Yeah thats what I think too. Based on pixel volume..

    1680x1050 = 1764000
    2048x1536 = 3145728

    Just can't find the driver, and I hate this kind of thing where the hardware drivers are available for everything but my brand and then the manufacturer doesn't have drivers either etc. It shouldn't be this bloody difficult.

    :) Won't be using it to play games.

    Just another quick question the port replicator is $275AUS which is alot when all I need is the DVI port. Do I have to buy the port replicator to get DVI, or can I use a VGA-DVI cable or something? I expect I do have to buy one, but hoping there might be a cheaper option.

    Thanks

    Edit: I just spoke to Toshiba Australia who said there had been no update to the driver, and the res isn't supported. When I asked why the latest Catalyst driver wasn't supported he said they don't use that driver, and when I said that mine came installed with it he said something about OEM. Writing a letter to Toshiba now coz this is bloody ridiculous, I spent months making sure I got a lappie with Duo Core, matte screen and decent graphics card and they haven't updated the driver for months. When everything is widescreen now and it seems to have enough power based on the number of pixels it can output to display the res. I hate this ****!

    Looking through the reviews I found the Thinkpad Z61m runs 1680x1050 with an ATI Mobility Radeon X1400.. http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2987

    And the Australian Z61m does 1680x1050 with a 64MB x1300!

    Edit2: Called them back again and when I asked to speak to a manager the support person was alot more helpful and found drivers on a UK Toshiba site for version 8.283. Discovered this is the Ati driver, up from version 8.202 released on the same date as the 6.14.10 Intel drivers I have. So not as big an increase in version as I had originally thought but I'll see how it goes.
