I'm curious considering that the Tecras are perhaps performance based while satellite tend to be more multimedia base. Satellites are so much cheaper then tecra but does that mean their built quality different in both of them?
Where are Toshiba's made? Apparently their quality have diminished in recent years as they r no longer made in Japan but in China which is a shame really.
The tecra notebooks comes with matte screens which apparently the guy from the computer shop say they will become outdated very soon because of the glossy screens. The glossy screens with satellite are so nice they really enhance true colour and definition which considering i do alot of photoshop and 3d rendering this might b an extreme advantage. But the thing is if i were to work long hours on a laptop will a matte screen or glossy be better on the eyes. The computer guy said the glossys are better as matte do reflect as well so outdoors it doesnt make a difference.
As experienced users out there I'm curious to know your experience with the screens! Which are better on the eyes on says mayb 5 hours or more computer time work?
It's all so confusing lol no matter what company you buy there is always pro and cons lol.

Is this guy working on comission or something? Glossy is not necessarily superior to matte, its all a matter of personal preference, really. By the way, did he explain to you why matte will become "obsolete".
On the other hand, I can offer you no good advice on which is better. I'm on my first machine, and I never even considered what screen type when I bought it. I'm fine with either, really, but the advantages of glossies being better outside makes no difference to many since a laptop is usually used indoors. -
Yeah I agree with bc135 about matte becoming obsolete, sounds a bit like salesdroid speak to me.
I chose the Tecra A6 matte because I didn't like the reflections glossy screens created from overhead fluoro's, and for me I found it very difficult to see the screen especially information on white backgrounds like explorer or word. With sunlight there is a bit of reflection from a matte screen but from what I have seen its nothing compared to a glossy one. Also the I find Tecra A6 screen is not bright enough to use outdoors on sunny days. Please note this is my first laptop and so I cannot really compare.
But one thing with the A6 is that the contrast is a bit dark and if you do alot of photoshop and 3d work it may not reproduce the colours accurately?

My p105 says it was made in china. But quality is great.

I like my glossy screen.

Metamorphical Good computer user
Puffin, you should revisit the computer store or another store that sells computers and check out the screens to compare glossy vs. matte in person to see which you like better.
Glossys provide more vivid colors, sharper images, and higher contrasts. But nothings perfect, on the other hand the glossy finish is reflective and will reflect glare more than a matte. I've never been clear on how much better viewing angles are on glossys. I see alot of mixxed impressions on this. I would think a matte would be better for viewing outside do to the reflection you would get on the glossy. But most people use there laptops indoors. I know it is hard to know from a frew minutes of viewing screen in stores which one would be lest likely to give you headaches after five hours. I don't think many people experience many more headaches from glossys than they do mattes though. I did a thread a while back where I asked for opinions on this. I'll have to dig it up in the hardware forum. Most of the anwsers I got pointed me in that direction.
Tecra vs Satellite? Matte or Glossy?
