I returned the ASUS I just bought, there were issues. Also I found that T7250/2-8600m GT = P8400 @ 2.494GHz/9800m GS. It really was about equal FPS performance save the T7250's shortcoming in dealing with exploding vehicles in Fallout3. [mucho lago]
Having [briefly] looked at the other threads on this laptop and the newegg review.
1-Is the SLI reliable? It seems like some are having difficulty getting in and staying in SLI-mode. Is it a driver issue? Is it a power settings issue? Is it a bit of both? What's the deal?
2-Are you able to OC the P8400? How specifically? [Or were some with the 708's QX9300 confusing the issue?]
3-As far as a stock P8400 is concerned, how does it handle the explosions in Fallout3? I guess anyone with a P8400 can answer that one.

as far as i know you can only overclock the processor inna laptop if it has an 'X' in the name, ie x9100
as far as i know- others dont seem OC friendly -
I believe you can only OC extreme processors via the BIOS. For non extreme processors, you're going to need something like SetFSB.

Ok, I didn't think you could OC the CPU and I know [heard] that you can't OC the GPUs.
WHAT I WANT TO HEAR IS THAT GETTING INTO SLI MODE AND STAYING THERE IS NO PROBLEM. -
I haven't had any issues with the SLI setup so far. I don't play Fallout3 though, but so far everything I've tried performs well. (Unreal3, Red Alert 3, Bioshock, Spore, Call of Duty 4)

You can OC the cpu with nvidia system tools but it is not recommended. If you decide to try it, don't check the box that says apply settings on restart. I had my p8400 OC'd to 2.73ghz(got greedy) and had a heck of a time getting it back to a stable clock when restarting. Without bios the software applies the OC on every restart, this is where software based cpu OC's get in trouble. Was getting some really good framerates on high settings though
-
Also, hybrid sli can lower the amount of power the cpu uses if you switch to power saver mode, guaranteed to cause problems if your cpu is software OC'd instead of BIOS.

Yeah sgilmore62, your's is the post I saw concerning the OC'd CPU.
-I'm a little bit confused about this Hybrid SLI option. I'd just leave it set for gaming with full power normal SLI myself [Both GTS] cause I always play plugged in and don't need to worry about battery life.... but I've seen where someone was getting in the 9000s on the 3dm06 and that is obviously low, I would think that two GTS would automatically be over 10k. I'm wondering if the hybrid SLI is the culprit in that lower score.
-As for OCing the CPU, when I saw your posts I tried it with my SLi1 but couldn't get it to work. If and when I get this I'm sure I'll be seeking you out if I try to OC the P8400.
-Lastly:
1-How are the temps on the GPUs.
2-I've heard that the GPUs can't be OC'd, is that still the case? ....even if you disable the 9400m GT?
3-Are the two 9800m GTS packaged together like the 8600m GTs are in SLi1? That made cooling pads useless. -
[/URL][/IMG]1-How are the temps on the GPUs.
idling at 115-125 degrees F and maxout benchmarking at 135-138F (HW monitor)
2-I've heard that the GPUs can't be OC'd, is that still the case? ....even if you disable the 9400m GT?
must be the case because getting worse bm scores with oc than default. don't know how to disable motherboard gpu.
3-Are the two 9800m GTS packaged together like the 8600m GTs are in SLi1? That made cooling pads useless.
could be, I have the nzxt cooler and there is no difference according to HW monitor. -
2-Are you able to OC the P8400? How specifically? [Or were some with the 708's QX9300 confusing the issue?]
The faster the cpu--the higher 2d framerates. 3d framerate performance seems to be unaffected by processor speed. -
