I don't remember my satellite to have this on the plastic bag :

.. But this sums up the problem with Toshiba imho , I saw some pictures of laptops bags like a n6010 and all it had was a nice round fujitsu label to seal the bag , I wish they were more alternatives .

You also have to remember, this is a Tecra A4, one of their Business models. They usually spend a bit more on their Business models than they do on their Consumer product lines. Same goes for HP, their NC/NW Enterprise product lines are built differently & probably better than their NX (Small Business/SOHO) & Consumer lines (Pavailion & Presario). It also looks like these pictures were taken by someone in Canada, they may just package it differently here vs other countries.

I meant the 3 legal warning labels , I can't read them but they seem like the kind you find in software agreements "its not our fault , its your problem" kind .

    What did you mean ?

About the Tecra quality , the spec on the A4 are almost perfect but I'm not sure about the quality and the design . What saddens me is Toshiba used to be above par , way above .

Take a look at the S1 , a beutiful machine and then at the S2 , design wise its a downhill drop in both style and function ( all 3 usb ports on the right ? leds are unseen from above ) .

Possibly in Canada, Toshiba just wants to make sure that they cross all their T's and dot all their I's by putting the legal info right on the plastic bag. No way to get to the unit without seeing/reading this first.

The quality of Toshiba's have dropped below its competitors. I just recently changed a couple systemboards for a Tecra S1. Although they look nice and feel fairly solid, the internal design is just horrible. The engineers that designed the internals for this notebook should be shot! [ :p] This was just one model, don't get me started on the rest.

If you're really looking for quality, I'm sure you get better built units like HP/Compaq (NC Series), IBM & Fujitsu. I like the HP Compaq NC6000 series myself. The only issue is the added cost for going for a higher end (quality wise) unit.

I agree , this is whats wrong with them , showing where their mind is .

    >Tecra S1. Although they look nice and feel fairly solid, the internal design is just horrible.

You got me there , I thought those were great machines , especialy 2 years ago because they look like my 1410 only better speced with serial and pentium-M , and I'm very happy with the 1410 but its getting old .

The problem with the others I don't find my specs yet , Toshiba was the only one close enough now that they offer customizing , not to mention the 3 years "built-in" warranty they used to give on all Tecras - not any more .

My Toshiba purchased in USA 3 months ago had those three labels on them. I sell Toshiba's on my sales floor every day -- they all have them now.

    Gilo,

You may want to look at HP notebook (NX or NC series). These are their business line and are built fairly well. The NX is designed ofr SOHO or smaller businesses (1yr warranty), while the NC are designed for the Corporate/Enterprise environment (3yr warranty). Try looking at the HP Compaq NC6200 series. They just came out with some new models that might compete with the Tecra's (spec wise) and I'm sure they're built better. Also, cost is very similar.
