    Hey all MMEERRRY CHRISTMAS...
anyways i am planning to purchase another laptop, a lighter one than my a70 so i can actaully carry it for a longer period of time. my plan is to use this a70 as my main pc, after all it is a desktop replacement system. and im hoping to acquire a toshiba satellite a15 S157.i have my eye on one from ebay. it has the following
    -intel celeron 2.2 ghz
    -512 mb ram
    -40 gb
    -15 inches
    -wireless internet
    -usb ports
    -integrated graphics
    -dvd/cdrw combo

the current price is 590 USD but im 95% sure it will stay there. so what do yall think? i only need it for school stuff...no games or anathing. i think its a good deal but i am concered of te warantee. what if it stops working a month after i get it? will the original warantee still remain? and one last thing, i know an intel celeron is a processor but how is it different from P4s? worse? better? same?
anthing i should know about celerons? any help would be appreciated

BTW, is there anyone out there willing to sell a similar laptop for about 600 usd?

Honestly, I wouldn't spend more than $300 for a used laptop. Nowdays, notebooks (even ThinkPads) aren't built to last & last like they were a few years ago. God knows what kind of problems that A15 has: it may be an intermittent RAM, cpu or system board hiccup that can't be replicated at Toshiba depot under short-term testing.

With holiday sales & rebates you can basically buy a new Celeron notebook for $700 ~ $800 from Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. Check the ads!

Just FYI, if you want a light-weight mobile laptop, look for 14 or 13 inch screens. 15 is still way too bulky to carry everyday to class if that's what you want to do. If you're just running Office apps, don't worry if it's a Celeron or Sempron or AthlonXP.

When you said that you wanted a lighter unit to carry around longer, did you mean weight wise or battery power wise? At $600US, you can probably buy a new notebook as goRanger mentioned. You may want to take a look at an Acer 2300 series. It has the new Celeron M processor which is based on the Pentium M chips. It will give you similar computing power (probably even more) than the Celeron 2.2 you listed, and it'll definitely give you WAY more battery life (over 2hrs). One of these Acer units go for approx $1000CDN which is approx $700-$800US. You get a brand new notebook with upto date parts and also a full manufacturers warranty.

I wouldn't trust the A15, my cousin's aunt has one and she hates it. Because, it's build quality isn't so great and the performance doesn't match up to what new laptops are exceeding in speed in today's society. Heck, you can get a brand new Satellite A60 from $699 for Toshiba; it would last much longer than the A15 would.
