Toshiba a few (like 4 or so) years ago was one hek of a product, they were my tops for along time. They have been bumped out of first place though....
I go to retail web sites and read consumer reviews, and I read these posts, they have gone down hill quality wise.....Is Toshiba the new Acer?? Problems galore...what the hell happened?

Did Toshiba products go downhill? or did everyone else's get better? The first notebooks I ever used were Toshibas, and they worked very well. Then I switched to Thinkpad, and now an HP. What happened to the popular satellite notebook?

I'm typing on a 6yr old satellite....never a prob. All I read about is problems now...when I'm a fan of a brand it takes alot to sway me away...but after some recent issues I've been reading about and what they have or I should say haven't done to fix the A215 line bug, looks like i'm movin' on...

do you think it is the way Toshiba treats their customers that is to blame?
Or is it less of a focus on QC?? They use good compnents...but something isn't right.

If you're getting your data from these forums, then I'm sorry. Everything sucks.

Remember, people post because they have a question or complaint. And when it's a question, it's usually about something going wrong. Not may people start threads titled "Everything's Great".

In the end, most of the big companies produce laptops at the same quality.

True to a point , but for years now Toshiba are slipping .

I totally agree that some of their products now are of subpar quality ,
they have gone the DELL way of "working the specs" .

Take the x205 screen for example , putting a crapy screen doesn't show up in the specs but in an entertainment/gaming notebook is inexcusable .

I'm only going by what I read in mags and reviews at retail web sites...
Take a look at the A215 line...It has an intermittent blanking screen problem that can only be remedied by restarting the computer...You think they would have fixed this problem before releasing the 2nd gen of A215's...look at the reviews at bestbuy.com or circuit city.com...
That to me is bad service, and no justice to the customer spending there hard earned money.

From personal experience I would call it "lack of consistency". My two Toshiba laptops are different as night and day in terms of construction, design, aesthetics. One is solid, durable and impressive (X205) and the other feels noticably weaker, less durable (Tecra M7).

Plus, my Tecra M7, which is a Tablet PC, started to develop massive discolorations in the palmrest within a single month of use. That's pretty pathetic. Even more pathetic: the fact that the PC is used in Tablet mode 80% of the time.

No complaints about the screen on my X205-9349. It's equal to the best I have seen from any company for 1440x900. Are you talking about the higher res screen on the 9359?

I have an X205-3959 with the 1680x1050 screen, yeah. I can't say I'm overwhelmed by the screen at all. It's not very bright and all the colors seem washed out slightly.

And what was the best display that you had seen which is equal with Toshiba's display ?
I've checked many displays and in my opinion Toshiba's displays are in the last 25% of the top20 of quality of displays .
The most important thing is that you're pleasured by how your display is . Anything else isn't more important than that .

I havn't seen the X205 screen in person , what I said was due to
the NBR review as well as notes by several buyers . I think one said its worse then in a 500$ laptop .

A bad screen is a deal breaker for me , to be honest I can't seem to find a notebook with a good base ( screen , gpu & audio ) and I'm very flexiable about the rest of the specs including form factor .

This forum started to looks like Acer because nowadays everybody can afford a laptop ... 2-3 years ago only enthusiasts bought powerful laptops and they knew how to handle most of the problems and everybody was happy (or almost happy - there were problems back then of course) .... now everybody just buys notebooks instead of desktops and a lot of them are just beginners so of course they are not satisfied with their computer .... cause most of them they don't know how to set it up and to properly use it. Most of the guys (not all of them) they are complaining about some things that can be easily sort out if they just read the forum or try the search function.

I think that Toshiba's engineers add more and nore irrelevant gadgets to their laptop series .
Fo example the 4 speakers + 1 sub on their X205 ( and I think that in the "A" series as well ) .
Yeah - H/K should be gread speakers . But who need it anyway ? Because the distane between the right speakers to the left speakers is only 30cm , maximum , the sound of these speakers are just a little improved than a mono speakers .
I am completelly sure that someone who know what good sound should be will add anyway an external 2.1 system with a 2m distance beteen the speakers . Then the sound will be so much different !!!
