Hi everyone. I was looking for some opinions on two Toshiba models. I'm upgrading from a Dell Inspiron 1440, and I'm getting either the Toshiba Satellite L655-S5112, or the Toshiba Satellite L675D-S7047. The ONLY think keeping me torn is that the first one has the Intel core i5-460m processor and no blu ray player, and the second one has the AMD Phenom II N850 processor with a blu ray player. Now, I can live without a blu ray on the laptop, but i'd really like to have it. I guess what I'm really looking for is which processor performs better? The first has 2.4 ghz (2.8 with boost), and 3mb cache, and the second has 2.2ghz and 1.5mb l2 cache. Will I see a SIGNIFICANT difference in performance between the two or are the rather comparable? Any feedback at all would be appreciated. Thanks.

This is a very useful comparison of mobile processors: Mobile Processors - Benchmarklist - Notebookcheck.net Tech The N850 is ranked #75 and the 460M is #32. (Just for comparison, the Core i3 350M is #62.) So the N850 is a little bit less powerful than a standard Core i3.

Maybe if you fill out this form: http://forum.notebookreview.com/what-notebook-should-i-buy/29271-what-should-i-buy-form-must-read-before-posting.html and post it here http://forum.notebookreview.com/what-notebook-should-i-buy/, people can recommend you a laptop that suits your needs.

By the way, blu ray players are useful on screens with a 1080p resolution (that is, full HD). Those Toshibas don't have a full HD screen and they only offer native support for 720p, so the blu ray player is kinda wasted when watching movies unless you use an external monitor.

Thank you very much for the feedback. Best buy was leading me in the wrong direction. I was talking to a salesman about the difference between processors and he said that the i5 processor was a hair faster, but only has two cores, so the AMD with the third core would blow it out of the water. Was he just trying to make a sale on something more expensive?

I'm pretty set on what my needs are laptop wise, but it's going to boil down to just what extra features I want. Whether I end up with either of the toshiba or not, I think i'm going to be looking for an i5 or maybe even i7 processor with 720p or higher screen. I have a blu ray at home, and wanting it on the laptop was just a small extra and not really something that I think should way too heavily on my mind. I'd rather have a faster processor than a blu ray. I can always add a blu ray later anyway.

    Thanks again for the help.
