I'm looking to buy my first laptop and I think I've decided on Toshiba. The above-mentioned series looks appealing because it supposedly has the best sound quality (and yes, I realize that it's relative as far as laptops are concerned) which would hopefully lead to better music listening.

Toshiba has a whole boatload of models in this category. I noticed that Office Depot was featuring the A665-S5173 for $699, which sounds like a fairly good deal based on what I was seeing on Toshiba's website. It's got 4GB memory, 500GB hard drive and Intel Core i5-480M processor.

I would be using it for general purposes (web surfing, photos, music downloads, watching movies, etc.) -- no gaming. So would I not have to concern myself with things such as an AMD Phenom II Quad-Core processor, 1GB discrete graphics, and the like?

I also posted this on the "What Laptop Should I Buy" forum, but thought I'd try to collect as many opinions as possible. Thanks in advance for any feedback!

I just bought an A665 S5170 from Best Buy for $599. It has the i3 380m, and a 640Gig hard drive, but probably is otherwise the same. I am pretty impressed with it. I like how it uses a synaptics touchpad, has a webcam and sound that is way better than my Sager. The screen is ok, you do need to have it set at the sweet spot or it looks washed out a bit if you are high or low. This laptop is used for the same types of activity as you want and it more than enough for that. I tried opening several programs, listen to music, view a Youtube video, and all without even a hick up. I looked at the one you are looking at but felt the 100 bucks was better saved. If you have any further questions let me know.

Thanks for the feedback. I did end up buying it and wouldn't you know -- Office Depot slashed another $100 off the price, so I ended up getting mine for $599 as well!
