i have a Toshiba A105 that my girlfriend gave me (was her sisters). It was working fine, but her sis broke the LCD screen. It is pretty much shattered, not just a small crack. I took it because i want to connect it to an external monitor and use it. Problem is, when i connect it to my monitor, there is nothing that comes up, no boot screen, etc. all of the lights on the comp are working and i can hear the fan/harddrive, so i know that its getting power. My question is: what can i do to make sure that the computer is working, or what can i do to get it to boot straight to my external monitor? if i cant get it working ill probably just sell it for parts. any help is appreciated. thanks

The first thing I'd do is disconnect the LCD from the motherboard. When disconnected, you won't risk the damaged screen breaking the motherboard. (If it hasn't already done so.)

After that, I'd try pressing the appropriate key to toggle between an external monitor. In my experience there has been one on most laptops, as an Fn key.

Is the screen so shattered that it won't display anything at all? Also, does the external monitor seem to respond at all when turning on the laptop? (For example the power light turns from orange to green.)
