Hello,
Recently I changed the CPU of my laptop (Toshiba A200-13J with a Core Duo T2350) to a Core 2 Duo T5500.
The process of upgrading went without problems and Windows starts and works fine. The CPU is correctly recognized, so it seemed to be working OK.
But then I didn't really think it was faster, so I compared my laptop with another laptop with a T5500 standard installed and there was a big difference!
Super PI was almost twice as slow on my Toshiba, so I thought my T5500 was not running on full speed or something.
And indeed, when I checked with HWiNFO64, I saw that the FSB was way too low! It should be 166.7 MHz, but it toggles from 75 to 77 MHz!
I know the T2350 is 533 MHz and the T5500 is 667 MHz, but the chipset of my laptop is supposed to support 667 MHz. Even if it didn't, then why is the FSB not 133 MHz showing? Anything but 75 MHz!
Yeah, it's an old laptop, but I got a T5500 as a gift, knew it was faster than the T2350, so I thought... why not change it?
I've also tried with 2x 1GB RAM in Dual Channel (interleaved), but that didn't change anything. I have the latest BIOS (1.80) and there's no update anymore, since this laptop is EOL for some time now. In the BIOS itself are no options to change the FSB whatsoever.
I also checked the temperatures, seems to be normal, between 40-45 degrees Celsius.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this, or is there no way I can change the FSB?
Thanks for the help anyway!

If you don't get any help here in Toshiba subforums, I can move it to the Hardware subforum; just post here if you want it moved.

Oh thanks! I'll let you know!

On my FX I had to update my intel drivers for full t9300 support after swap. Sorry, no clue with the Toshiba but you might check if needed.

if the chipset supports the correct speed then it must be a limitation in the BIOS and as such you won't be able to sort it i wouldn't of thought. toshiba have a habit of strangling hardware capabilities with god awful BIOS revisions. the z830 i have is stuck at SATA2 speeds when the hardware is certified for SATA3, very frustrating for attempts to upgrade
