Toshiba's A205 line is now showing on New Egg, and thus we now have lots of pictures to see.

It looks fairly nice to me, though I can't say that I particularly like the new keyboard layout...

I currently have an a100 series Toshiba and was planning to upgrade to an a205 series, but after seeing the pictures, i'm not so sure. I hate how almost all the new laptops are putting all the ports on the sides. I like them on the back so the cords are not visable and nothing gets in the way of the mouse etc.

If i purchased an a205, i'd have the power connection coming out of the one side and the ethernet, and usb connections coming out of another side. Since my laptop spends 95% of its time on my desk, i dont think i want cords coming out of both sides. They will get in the way of my books, paper, mouse, etc.

With a dock i would still have 2 connections coming out of the sides, correct?

One usb cord and the power cord?

Nop. Nothing should come out. The power connection goes to the dock ofcourse. Ans you will have as many USB's as you want.

Ok, maybe I don't understand how a dock works. How does a dock connect to the laptop?

It plugs in a slot underneath the laptop.

Villageman: The Satellite does not have a docking slot on it. I know mine doesn't, the A135 doesn't, and I don't think the A205 does either.

How can you dock a system without a docking slot?

Those docks are all for older system models it would appear.

the docks are mainly on the Tecras. Almost none of the Satellites have Dock ports.

The new trend is to put ports on the side. For the DC jack the reason that its on the side is to reduce failures. Toshiba usually puts in on the back but when you tilt your laptop back it will bend the jack causing failures in the jack and ac adapter.

with the dc jack on the side you can have the laptop plugged in and in your lap at the same time with 0 issues.

FWIW the A205 is designed ALOT! like the HP DV6000. Its actaully kinda creepy. I would imagine that both of the motherboards are made by HannStar.
