    Hi Guys,

I need a little insight here as I want to try to repair this myself (or atleast trouble shoot it).

A friend of mines has a Toshiba A215 laptop that is getting no power at all, zip, zilch, nada. No charging light either when the AC adapter is plugged in. I have tried the following:

    -Tried changing batteries
    -Tried changing the AC adapter

Can this be a problem with the AC --> DC power jack? Soldering is not a problem for me if that is all that's required to fix this issue. Is there another way to test this out? Can I open up the laptop and try put a small voltage on where the DC power jack is to see if it gets any power that way? I have all of the electronics tools for this.

    Thanks in advance!

If you can wiggle it around, chances are that the power jack that is soldered to the motherboard has broken off. If you can access the power jack, you could try pressing it down so that it makes contact, then testing whether the computer will turn on.

Thanks, I'll definitely try this out. As far as I know, the Toshiba A215 power jacks are just wires on the motherboard I believe. I attached a picture of what I found on Ebay. Does that look right?

That looks like the part you want, assuming its for the A25.

Thanks Bog. Do you know if Toshiba laptops give the user a user guide with disassembly instructions?

When I purchased my A70 three years ago, I did receive manuals and recovery CDs, but no disassembly instructions. You can use this guide on upgrading the memory to at least get an idea on how to dismantle the A25. For further instructions, you could also try searching Toshiba's website.

Odds are you need a system board. A215 has a DC jack harness, so th AC jack is not attached to the board. If this laptop is under warranty do not take it appart yourself - take it to a service center.

Yea it is not under warranty anymore. Is there a possibility the DC jack might have gotten loose from the board?
