Apparently, in a review of the laptop I own, which i found on this site, it says that the Toshiba Satellite A300 with the 3650 is actually an MXM II GPU. I was under the impression that it was soldered on to the motherboard.

Does anyone here know if it is an MXM GPU? I have looked all over the internet, and apart from that review, I couldn't find a thing.

Hmm, that first review sounds exactly like the review of the A300 I found on NBR:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=299636

It's looking good so far. I tried taking it apart today, but the top cover wouldn't come off. Plus, I fear that taking the top cover off this thing would void the warranty. I probably already have, considering I took out the RAM, both hard drives, and the keyboard.

When the warranty voids thing, I might have a go at replacing the 3650 with a 9600M GT or a 4650, or some similar MXM II type GPU, if it is possible.

Thing is, from the point I got to, I could see quite a bit into the middle of the laptop, yet I saw no characteristic red PCB of the ATI card...

Good find on that second article too in your first post, +Rep.

Yeah, I was following that. But the top cover wouldn't come off and then I ran out of time, and I'd probably void the warranty if I did take the top cover off.

As moral hazard said in another topic I created about the non dedicated GPU version vs the dedicated GPU version disassembly, the only things different would probably be the PCB of the GPU itself, and the heat pipes that run next to it or close to it. From what I have already seen, it seems that the GPU itself is located under the motherboard, and I'll have to remove the motherboard to actually get to it. I can't do that since it will for certain void my warranty.

Sorry for resurrecting this thread...but for anyone who happens to come across it in the future, please let it be known that this notebook does not have an MXM card. It uses a slot that looks a fair bit like it, but the card card itself is quite oddly shaped, and the heatsink and mounting design is quite proprietary.
