Bought a Toshiba satellite A40, worked great with XP, but had to install W2000 to hook it up to the company's network. The bios version is 1.5 (latest on Toshiba's website)

I can't install the Toshiba common modules getting the error "not an ACPI machine". All ACPI funtions are not working.

tried upgrading bios, reinstalling W2000, reinstalling drivers in correct order...no success.

    Any ideas.

    Thanks

    Hey New,

From the model you listed, I'm assuming your located in Canada. From what I can see, this model only has support for XP (only XP drivers available). It may be possible to install W2K, but it doesn't list any support for this unit from their support site. Another possibility could be that the bios is not compantible with W2K.
Have you checked the BIOS to see what APM settings were? Try opposite setting and see if this helps. Another thing you can do is to contact Toshiba support to see if they can provide any further input.

I am actually located in Egypt. The drivers for the Satellite A40 can be found at www.toshiba-europe.com

They have windows 2000 drivers, even the comon modules drivers. It says they have the lates bios update. which doesn't seem to be compatible with Windows 2000 (getting the same errors)

Tried going into the bios setup, but couldn't find any entries that deals with APM. The local support for them here in Egypt is terrible they didn't even seem to understand what I am talking about.

Very frustrating.....but I appreciate your response.

That's funny, the Toshiba.com & Toshiba.ca sites don't have Win2K drivers for this unit. It only has XP.
Regarding the BIOS, it may not indicate APM, but look for any Power Management options, my old Toshiba has Power Management options listed in the BIOS. If yours does not have any, then Toshiba changed the setup for their newer units.
If Toshiba support in Egypt is poor, you may want to just try the Toshiba USA support @ (800)457-7777. This is normally toll-free, but I'm not sure how it works from Egypt, but if it's toll-free, you may want to just try them out.

    Good Luck!
