Yesterday on my way home from college some r cut me off and i had to slam on the brakes. Because of this, my laptop went flying forward in its bag and hit the ground. Since that incident programs randomly freeze and say not responding. It'll take a minute and they'll start working again. Im guessing there is some kind of physical damage to the laptop but I am unsure what it would be. That's why I have turned to you lovely folks to help me out. The laptop is still under warranty so all I really need to know is what part of the computer is damaged and what could cause that that wouldn't be an accident? Thank you! I can't handle this freezing!

PC. I ran the toshiba diagnostics program and it all came up clean.

    Hello!
I would say it is 99% like your HDD. What I would do is to send in my laptop to Toshiba to change it. Or you can do that by your self. HDD is quite easy to change, or even you can upgrade to SSD drive wich would make your laptop even faster. Also, SSD drives does not get damaged by physical damages. You can slam an SSD drive into the ground and it will still work (Well, most of them) if you can get it hooked up again. But, if you don't want to spend your own money on it you can easly send it to Toshiba. Let me know if something came up..

All is well! I didn't end up having to go to Toshiba and it was the HDD that was messing up. I ran chkdsk /r and it went for about the length of the Jurassic and Triassic periods. I let it run while I was at school and when I came home it was working again. :) Thank god. Thanks for the advice though!

Lol, what a coincidence. So it just happened that you drop it and program freeze, but there's no physical damage after all? How was chkdsk able to fix your laptop? Is it because of resource conflicts or corrupt associations in the registry that was fixed by running chkdsk? A few programs of my laptop sometimes become irresponsive, but I don't think it's something general though. Maybe I should try the suggestion on this article about programmes not responding, which is to reinstall if the problem affects only a particular program. It also says there that the most common reason for such is when your computer is running low on resources or have corrupted components for applications.

I'm curious. Was your laptop running, in standy, hibernated, or totally turned off?

    Thanks.

Guys, maybe his laptop did not take damage of falling. But maybe he forgot telling us something, it can be like he hold the powerbutton down and 'killed' his running system. When he ran chkdsk /r it actually fixed the 'damaged' files, or folders.
Only God knows why whatisamegan's HDD/laptop acts like this...
