    Hey all -

I searched through the threads about this issue and found some info but nothing certain.

Curious, does the A505-S6965 output 5.1 over HDMI? I have the laptop plugged into my TV via HDMI , then optical audio out from my TV to my receiver. My setup is like so:

    [Laptop]----(HDMI cable)----[Samsung 42" Plasma]----(optical audio out)----[H&K Receiver]

I can hear stereo sound out through my receiver, but can't get 5.1 while watching a DVD through Toshiba's DVD player or WMP. I've checked through the settings on the laptop for the HDMI out, etc, and set everything I could find to 5.1, but it doesn't seem to get the signal or something.

I know the setup works with my TV passing the signal through to the receiver because I had my ps3 hooked up the same way, through the same input, and was able to get 5.1.

I've also seen a few articles while googling that the ATI mobile Radeon 4570 might have problems with 5.1 over HDMI, so not sure.

Has anybody messed around with this, or maybe heard of a way to set this up? This is the main reason I bought the laptop, so any infos would be much appreciated!! :)

    Thanks in advance

Have you tried downloading the HDMI control manager from Toshiba support--is it not on/working on your computer?

Thanks for the reply sgilmore. I'm honestly not sure if what I have is the HDMI control utility or not. The properties I adjusted were mostly through the sound setup (Realtek HDMI out properties, etc). I'll grab that util and see if it makes a difference, then post the results.
