I'm trying to decide between 2 toshiba notebooks:
L355D-S7825 with an AMD Turion 64 x2 Dual core T60

    or

    L55-S78631 With an Intel Pentium Dual-Core T3200

Any comments about these processors would be welcome.
    Thanks

The TL-60 is a 2.0GHz processor from AMD's previous generation lineup. In Toshiba products, it would be paired with the ATI Radeon X1250 integrated graphics (comparable to Intel's older GMA X3100 integrated graphics).

The Intel Pentium Dual-Core T3200 is the newest Intel entry-level dual core processor. It has a clock speed of 2.0GHz, but in reality it significantly outperforms the AMD RM-70 (the TL-60's successor). It benefits from the newest Intel chipset and the new 4500MHD graphics processor. The T3200 also generates less heat and uses less power (batter life) than the AMD processor.

The one with the T3200 is definitely the way to go!

NewEgg.com has a few great Toshiba L-series models currently on sale, too-

They have L305 models with the Intel T3200 as low as $499-

    And this L355-S7831 for $629.99- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834114527

FYI- Newegg only charges sales tax to customers in CA, NJ and TN- an extra discount to think about! :D

This comparison test on Cnet.com clearly shows that the models tested with AMD processors didn't perform as well as models with the Intel T3200- http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10064769-1.html?tag=centerColumnArea3.0

Take a look at the results for the Toshiba Satellite L355-S7825 (2.0GHz AMD TL-60), A305-S6872 (2.0GHz Intel T3200) and U405D-S2874 (2.1GHz AMD RM-72). The T3200 outperformed the TL-60 and RM-72 in all three performance tests, yet it also used less energy (battery).

Also, compare the results of the HP dv4-1125nr (2.0GHz T5800) with the dv4-1155se (2.2GHz AMD ZM-82). The T5800 was substantially faster in the first two performance tests and the two were almost identical in the the third test. The battery life of the two can't be directly compared because the 1125nr had a 6-cell battery and the 1155se had a 12-cell.

LAPTOP Magazine recently conducted a comparison of two systems- one with the 2.26GHz Intel P8400 (and Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics) and one with the 2.2GHz AMD ZM-82 (and ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics), but with all other specs being equal. Take a look- http://www.laptopmag.com/features/mobile-life/face-off-amd-puma-vs-intel-centrino-2.aspx?page=1

    AllfiredUp,
None of the reviews you referenced measure the intel Pentium Dual Core T3200 series to the AMD Turion X2.

Again I ask, where did you get your information from?

Despite the negative reviews, I'm happy with my Turion X2 Ultra with the ATI HD3200 integrated graphics. I play FarCry 2, Unreal Tournament 3 and other games fine. It's the graphics card that matters to me.

BTW - This is a quote straight from the Intel fourms (LINK):

    Allfiredup,
Thanks for the references. I guess it really all depends on what you do with your system more often. I enjoy multimedia (Movies, Music, HD TV programing, etc.), casual gaming, office productivity stuff and my system handles it fine.

I guess if it were up to me, I would rather wait a few seconds more to run Photoshop than far less FPS in my games. I do wish my battery life was better (~2.25hr with a 6-cell)...

    Thx ;)
