Anyone who has had or has a Toshiba for a while, please comment/vote.

Depends on which model you're talking about, satellite, Qosimo, Tecra, Portege?
-
satellite, but in general in toshiba
-
I voted for "good", but as this is my first lappy, I don't really have much experience.
Anyways, I'm happy with the build of mine, doesn't feel flimsy or anything.

Mine is bearing up well, now 8 months old, but it doesn't and never has felt hugely solid so I voted average.
That said, it is a budget model. -
this is also my first lappy so i voted good
one complaint is that if i poke anywhere lightly on screen/lid it creaks, literally, i mean it. -
My comment goes to Satellite, I used to be. Old satellite has above average build quality, whilst newer satellite has average build quality and now satellite line suffers from severe keyboard flex.
-
Agree about the keyboard flex; that's what keeps me far, far away from Toshiba Satellite.
-
I have a saltellite a100 the keyboard had a lot of flex in so I had it replaced and it is much better, the only other issue was that it wouldn't come out of hibernation mode, after changing the settings restoring os it still wouldn't come out unless I turned it off and back on again, I had to get the mainboard replaced but now it seems to be working good, I have had it since aug/2006 so I would have to vote average
-
i had no probs with my hibernation or sleep, first laptop so i can't on a lot, my keyboard seems fine, if you put more than 1kg of pressure, then it starts flexing
-
my toshiba a70 has overheating problems (its about 2 years old now), i get it repaired and then it slowly comes back over a few months, it's pretty low quality and very slow but the newer toshibas seem to be better. I would vote very poor but i think toshibas newer satellites are probably better so i wont vote.
-
I bought my a15 satellite beginning of 03. In the last 2 yrs its had a hard drive fail, cpu overheat (just needed cleaning), and now my lcd took a crap. My battery lasts for about 5 minutes if that. I'd say its avg at best.
-
Hey I was wondering if anybody has this problem. Ok, so anyways I have a Satellite P35-S609 Toshiba Laptop. The problem is it randomly shuts off. WTF?? So this is so freaking annoying. Anyway, this pisses me right the hell off. I ll be playing a StarCraft Lan and it shuts off. This has been doing this for a long time. I even took it to bestbuys geeksquad. There has been a lot of repairs to this laptop. Other problem is AC adapter keeps heating off at burning temps. So this is the worst thing ever. Which is bull****. I think it's the adapter or the connection. One or two. This was also bought as a display model.
Please someone help
Please. -
I have an a75-s206. Total garbage. Currently in for its 8th repair. The only thing good about it was that I was smart enough to get a 3 year warranty.

I've got an A75 and it's been relegated to use as a spare since it started to overheat after it's 2nd cleaning. The thermal design of this Toshiba is really disappointing. It ran extremely hot even when brand new.
The only consolation is that it was purchased on a deep sale, has a great TruBrite screen & a very strong Atheros wireless chip.
Being a longtime laptop user, I'm smart enough to have bought the Toshiba extended warranty, backed up with AMEX. -
I had my Toshiba for half a year, and there is like no dust in the cpu heatsink.
That may be because I always use it on my desk with the laptop box underneath it to raise the screen up a bit.
Heard that if you use your laptop on some surfaces like wood, the laptop tends to be more hotter. Ow well. -
-
I've had the same Satellite for almost 4 years. It's gone through quite a few drops. It still runs great, but the AC adapter is starting to die.

i've had my toshiba m30 since 2004, overall it still runs like new, except for the fact that my ac adaptor failed me 6 times, i replaced the motherboard, and i replaced the hard drive. maybe it runs like new because its full of newer parts! in defense though im on my laptop 8-10 hours a day

I voted average. I'm using the X205 and I find the quality to be sturdy enough - the plastic could be more heavy-duty but as long as the notebook is taken care of it should be fine.
-
I would agre with Chaz on this. I was at Staples today looking at Notebooks and I have to say I was not impressed with the Toshiba's There was A LOT of flex to the keyboard and the top plastic felt cheap. However, the screen and hinge felt extremely solid. I was looking at a 17'' though I can't remember which model it was.
-
My old Qosmio G25 was terrible.
-
Its funny that I have a laptop, I should have gotten a desktop. My laptop is just sitting on the laptop box on my desk to make the screen a little bit higher, then I got my keyboard and mouse plugged in, and external speakers too. And the pink foam paper on the laptop keyboard to prevent dust getting into the keyboard. My battery is behind collecting up dust. Since I am in still high school, I don't need to bring it to school. I've maybe used my laptop outside my room like 5 times, 4 of the times it was for fun.
-
doesn't seem like nobody here in the post is having good luck with thier M25's. but our IT at the college used to give them to their students as part of their laptop program..no problems. they don't do that anymore..but they did sell them..a few of my friends had them and after being used that much before they were still really good! no problems..good build..i can't remembe what models they were though. i know they were satellites for sure

And what is your reason for bumping this? Just curious.

If I had to rate my two Toshibas:
Tecra M7 Tablet PC - Average
X205 - Good -
I disagree with Chaz. The X205 is extremely built well. I find no problem in it's build. And I have no flex in my keyboard. I voted Good for my NB 'cause it is built very well.
I'm typing on the X205 right now and I have to say it is a joy to type on. I am enjoying the X205 very much. -
I think it depends on the model and type. I think Toshiba is average and this is supported by this survey:
Brand (Response #) Overall Score Reliability
Apple (509 ) 9.1 9.2
Fujitsu (84) 8.4 8.6
Lenovo/IBM (927) 8.2 8.4
Sony (378) 7.9 8.0
Toshiba (928) 7.9 8.0
Dell (3,066) 7.8 8.0
Gateway (372) 7.8 8.0
HP/Compaq (1920) 7.8 7.9
Acer (290) 7.5 7.8
Averatec (74) 7.0 7.3
Avg. of Windows PCs 7.8 8.0
So Dell, Toshiba, HP are pretty much "average". -
It seems that the only brands that are above average are
fujitsu and Lenovo/IBM, comparing PCs. The rest are about the same.
So the survey is hardly reliable to me...
I meant a more detail and specific survey is needed
By the way, what do you think the quality of Qosmio F45 is?
Because I'm deciding to buy whether F45 av425 or X205 S9349.
According to the review I've read so far, the only thing I can tell is F45
has better screen. and the game performence of X205 is a little better...
So which model is a better choice? -
Also the number of response also probably contributed to possible bias on the final results. Not sure.
Keep in mind that many of these machines are made by the same ODM in Taiwan so the relative closeness of the reliability is not really a surprise.
I don't know much about Qosmio series but the X205 seems to be suitable for gaming. Some ppl don't like the display resolution tho but to me it seems to be ok. FWIW, you might wanna check out the 3D benchmark for all the machine you are interested. Physically interaction with the actual unit should be preferred as well. -
I guess that best way is to go check them in person.
But I'm not sure if Qosmio F45 is on display so that I can actually play with it. Maybe I'll go to fry's and see if it's there. Or do you know where I can't find them?
thanks! -
I liked mine until it just crashed and died on me.
